I absolutely Loved this book. This was my first J. California Cooper Book and it will not be my last. I tell you I felt like I was sitting around the Kitchen table, Down South somewhere and just listening to one of the Elder Woman telling stories to the younger generation. I really embraced the characters' joys, pains and struggles. They were stories of everyday people that could live next door to you or me (or be you or me) but it gave me a warm feeling. It made me reflect on myself and embrace my struggles. The Author, J. California Cooper is an excellent storyteller and I definately look forward to curling up with more of her hearty stories. I've already purchased A piece of mine and it is pretty consistent with Some Soul to Keep. Enjoy!

I have read all of J California Cooper's books, and I must say that I have never been disappointed. Some Soul to Keep is a wonderful collection of heartwarming stories.

She has done it again for me. J. California Cooper is an extraordianary storyteller that touches your soul.
This is my third book of her short stories that I have read.
Her short stories are sometimes humorous and always wise with real like situations . Dealing with love,marriage, fate, and death overcoming triumphs of some not so perfect people.
Her story will certainly touch you soul .
I bought this book and sit down to just preview it . Before I knew it I had started reading it. Then I could not stop until I had finished them .
I would highly recommend and suggest her work if you have not already read any of her work. She is certainly in a class by herself, no others can compare with her.

This book is worth the price just for the single priceless story "Sisters of the Rain." My students never fail to read the last line- together- and say- "Now THAT is a good story. Why don't we have more like that one in school." J. California Cooper writes real. And real appeals to teens. And students are right-- stories worth reading are the ones they should be given. That's the rainbow for them.

Some Soul to Keep is a great book to read. It has many true things that happen in life and people can learn about them. I liked this book because it's really in teresting and it has a lot of drama. This book also makes it easy for a person to understand how the author feels and is talking about. I rated this book a 4 becuase everyone can relate in a way to her stories and it's not boring at all. I got into the book fast and I think who ever read it will, too.

This is one of my favorite J. California Cooper books. Reading this book reminds me of sitting by Aunt G. as she told old stories. I give this one 5 stars. If you've haven't read any of J.'s books start with this one.

I read her stories and I laugh and I cry and I get angry its like listening to a family member tell stories of experience. No matter what these short stories are about I always leave with a lesson learned and that anyone no matter who you may be, you can acomplish something

Ms Cooper can make a short story seem like a novel.Her discriptons of characters and of the era is so fullfilling and complete, you are not left unfullfilled.Well I'm off to read another of her works!!

Ms. Cooper steps into our world like a favorite aunty, shooing self condemenation (over past mistakes) away like so many flies.

If you haven't yet read J. California Cooper, please stop cheating yourself. She writes with all of the joys and sorrows of life, and always with a spark of hope and optimism that lingers with the reader long after the last page. I give her books to everyone I know, because when you find a friend you want the whole world to know her.
