What amazes me about this marvelous gem of a CD is why some major label hasn't come along and snapped it up. I would have been enthralled simply with Ms. Campbell's captivating renditions of so many of my favorite songs on this album, but she and producer Pat Savage (who apparently is also a MIGHTY sweet guitar player, besides having the exquisite ears and velvet touch of a truly outstanding producer) have put together a collection of material and musicians that rival ANYTHING I've heard on a major label in a long, long time.

I'd have been a happy buyer if only for the way that Ms. Campbell captured the heart-grabbing essence of several eternal classics, such as "As Time Goes By," "Our Love is Here To Stay," "More Than You Know," and Hoagy Carmichael's endearing "The Nearness of You." I'd even have been satisfied if I had only been able to listen to Debbie's blues-tinged, but sophisticatedly sassy interpretations of the up-tempo and Big Band swing numbers such as "My Heart Belongs to Daddy," "Don't Get Around Much Anymore," Duke Ellington's classic "I'm Beginning to See The Light" and the rollicking title song by Shelton Brooks, "Some of These Days". But on top of all that, Ms. Campbell has also captured several, obscure but priceless (read that, "almost naughty") novelty songs such as Julia Lee's "I Didn't Like It The First Time"(The Spinach Song) and "If I Can't Sell It (I'll Keep Sittin' On It Before I Give It Away" - The Chair Song) with the currency of a prime-time CNN news break.

Much of what makes this album such a priceless gem is the fact that Debbie and producer Savage have pulled together a truly amazing group of musicians who give their support to the project in the seemingly effortless way that only truly masterful, veteran musicians can achieve. Listen for example to the incredibly seamless solo transitions between the Savage's guitar work and the exquisite sax phrasing of Will Campbell (who toured for several years with Harry Connick Jr's band) on "Days of Wine and Roses." I tell you, it just doesn't get much better than that!

Like I said at the beginning, why oh why, dear major labels, can't you put out this sort of product? And why haven't you snapped up the incredible talent of Debbie Campbell? I can only hope that we'll be hearing more (MUCH more!) from her somewhere soon.

After listening to Debbie Campbell's SOME OF THESE DAYS CD I have one question: Debbie....where have you been all my life???

I ordered this CD on Amazon.com (the only one I have seen of Campbell's on Amazon) and it's very clear that it'll be WORN OUT within a year. I simply MUST play it over and over: it is now one of the most prized CDs in my collection.

There is NOT a single misfire in this classy, sassy and uplifting selection -- and rendition -- of some of America's best, most wonderful pop and jazz tunes. Some singers do slower songs and even when they're upbeat it doesn't entirely electrify the listener. But Campbell cannot help but electrify. No matter what she sings, upbeat or slow song, Campbell is consistently optimistic and charismatic. She seems like she's having FUN with the music and loves it so much -- and so does the listener. Her phrasing and vocal range are world-class and enhanced by her sparkling styling of old classics. As soon as she does the song, it immediately becomes HER OWN.

A few (of the MANY) cases in point: My Heart Belongs to Daddy, You Made Me Love You, and Some of These Days become instant new classics in this CD. And then there are two great risque songs: I Didn't Like It the First Time (the Spinach Song) and If I Can't Sell It (supposedly about a chair) which are done with a zest, joy and humor that perfectly melds with her topnotch backup band. Indeed, this band's instrumentals -- especially the work of pianist Spencer Sutton and Sax player Will Campbell -- are so superb that with a bit of tinkering they could release a CD of just the instrumentals. I especially love the upbeat numbers, but the slower songs and instrumentals for slower numbers such as Don't Get Around Much Anymore and Our Love Is Here To Stay are unique and in the same class (musical home runs) as the faster numbers.

It's truly heartening to see someone who has taken great music by composers such as Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and others and breathed completely new life into them, by updating them to newer jazz versions. Every single vocal and instrumental here honors this great American music -- so much so that even young folks completely into rock would enjoy this collection.

So I'll play this CD over and over, probably have to reorder because I'll wear it out -- and will gift it to a few folks. A class act from start to finish -- with optimism, innovation and pizazz in every note. PLEASE Debbie: record some more!

"Some of These Days" has quickly become one of my favorite CDs in my library! I love the classic tunes, awesome vocals, and terrific background instrumentals. Just a 5 star CD all the way around. Seldom do I buy a CD and come away saying, "Wow! That was really great! I loved every track." This was one of those rare CDs. If you love terrific jazz vocals with fantastic instrumental support, this is the CD for you! Debbie, you have a new fan!

If you like great jazz vocals, served up with fine arrangements, you'll love Debbie Campbell's latest - "Some of These Days." These are jazz classics - and so is Debbie's delivery. With a voice made for jazz, the only question is why she hasn't been signed by a major label. Forget the pop "divas" who are "hear" today, gone tomorrow - treat yourself to classy music sung by a classy performer. Debbie's voice is one reason you should be thankful for the gift of hearing.

She can sing for me anytime, any style. Fact is, Debbie can make any music her own, she just happened to make this CD some jazz standards. I particularly like "If I Can't Sell It"," Don' Get Around Much Anymore", and "Our Love is Here to Stay". Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, and George Gershwin would be proud and happy to have Debbie sing there music anytime as well. There are hundreds more I hope she puts on CD's. She also brings together great muscians for this CD. Spencer Sutton and Pat Savage are as talented as you will find anywhere. This is a fine collection of material, and looking forward to more. You will not be disappointed.

Debbie Campbell, a wonderful and gifted singer and musician, a gentle soul whose heart reached out to many during her time on planet Earth, passed away Febuary 28, 2004. She will be missed by all of us who were her friends. Her voice was that of an angel, and I am sure that Heaven is proud to have her joining in! This CD is a wonderful addition to any CD collection. Debbie, you will be missed.

Wow, what a voice. Debbie Campbell is a gifted singer. And on this CD, she really showcases her talent. Listening to her sing brightens my day. If you're looking for something to lift your spirits, try this one.

This is an extradordinary collection of familiar favorites that Debbie Campbell performs with such skill and grace that they become classics all over again. Her voice is exceptional and she maximizes its effect with the heart and soul she brings to the lyrics. Each song is memorable, but "The Days of Wine and Roses" is a particular standout, as Campbell seamlessly sings in concert with wonderful backup musicians.

I have listened to this CD at least 15 times since I first purchased it. I have yet to tire of it. Debbie's voice is incredible and the song selection is great. She puts emotion into the songs that can be heard -- and felt. I can't wait for the next one!

Every once in a while I try out an artist I'm unfamiliar with and am pleasantly surprised. Examples are Nancy LaMott "Listen to My Heart" and Andrea Marcovicci "Just Kern". Finding Debbie Campbell was another of those "wow" moments. Her style is smooth and her interpretation of these standards is wonderful. She seems to stick close to home but I'd love to see her in the Oak Room at The Algonquin in New York for a long engagement! The bottom line is get the album, sit back, and enjoy.
