straight from the depths of Lisbon!!,

"Some of Us" is one of the best albums I've heard in a while. The rich diversity of the music and the intense live shows just make Primitive Reason one of the best out there, and definately the best in Portugal. As for Jess King, I don't think she was ever IN the band, she was only used as a guest musician. Plus, Primitive still sound amazing with her collaboration. The tracks with her were diferent than the usual PR style, but she was just that, a GUEST musician, not the true essence of Primitive Reason, she just added backup vocals to already amazing tracks. Stay tuned to THREE AND A QUARTER (JahNotion), coming soon to a city near you.

Some of Us is simply a masterpiece. Who wants to listen to a different combination of dynamics, such as dub, ska, reggae, metal, rock, world music and so on...you should check Some of Us and PRIMITIVE REASON. Their latest album is THE FIRESCROLL and it's even better than this one. So if this is 5 stars, imagine what THE FIRESCROLL is... check some sounds at: www.primitivereason.org

I love this album it's one of the most complete album i've ever heared talking about the diversity of musics...... it is just my favorite bands but eventhough this album is excellent their 2 previous albuns are even more interesting and coolest than this one.... So if you are able to buy them don't hesitate buy it. I just hope that producers stop being so obsessed to money and let bands record because they have sent a e.p. that the editors wanted a more pop music so they sent it off by themselves by recording it at home in virgin cd's..... this e.p. is called 4.0 and this e.p. has four excellent musics, 2 of them in my opinion the most brilliants they have ever done so buy it to because it's a limited edition and you can oly buy it at their concerts

This album is intense...,

I've loved this band from the moment I saw and heard them. The band's energy is so very intense and their music touches the depths of my soul. I seldom name favories when it comes to albums, yet after hearing this album I must say that they would be in my top 3 list. The rhythms and beats on this album really make you want to start to move your body and the lyrics are so profound that I even found myself walking around quoting them. So I think with the lead singer's luring lyrics and the music that embraces the raw passion of spirit you are bound to be mesmerized by this album. Their live shows will definately not dissapoint either, your body will move, the fever to groove will infect you, and you will know how it feels to be "some of us".

It's interesting to read these reviews. Lots of praise and some dismay. This is Primitive Reason's only U.S. release to date but for those who really know the band should also know that this cd is more like a solo album from Guillermo de la Blarnes. He and the drummer are the only remaining original members and the extreme diversity of the music, the more than a few special guests, dictate the many different movements of the music. It sounds like it was rushed for release. The songs overall are pretty good. Some unique, some familiar sounding, and some (of us) just puzzled with the direction it goes. Jess King is fine here but she is not right for their true indentity. The other guests such as Tom Martin on guitar and Strong on vocals do a nice job but stray form the true Primitive sound. Pick this up for a bargain price and you won't be disappointed. But, whatever you do, don't judge the band from this cd. Do your best to pick up any other of their cd's and you will learn what their true identity really is.

I was turned on to Primitive Reason thru friends that saw them perform in Portugal. After a few weeks with the CD, I knew they were great, but after a few months, I knew they were genius.
Reggae, rap, hip-hop , poetry, horns, hard rock, it's all in there wrapped in a tight and clean infectous groove. If you like, Jurassic 5, Sublime, System of a Down or anything in between, this CD is for you. Seriously.

Unfortunately little known in the United States, Primitive Reason is very popular in Portugal (although their lyrics are mostly in English). I saw them in 2001 and was totally blown away. They are hard to categorize musically, although if you like Sublime or Rage you will probably love them...their music has elements of hard rock, rap, ska, jazz, punk, among other influences. Lyrically interesting, sophisticated musically, and just generally awsome :)

when listening to "Some of Us" i can't help but feel a profound sense of sadness and nostalgia. Primitive Reason, with the music of their first 2 albums ("Alternative Prison" and "Tips & Shortcuts", only available in Portugal i think), had a really strong influence in my 'teenage years'. they once were one of the best Portuguese bands, now i don't know if i can still call them 'portuguese' anymore.along with drastic changes in the band's line up came (predictable?) changes in their music...for worse, in my opinion. they totally lost that appeal, that seductiveness of their early years. "Some of Us" lacks the innovative ability, originality and raw power of their first albums...a truly disappointing record! they should consider the possibility of changing their name...they quit being Primitive Reason with this album.

Just wanting to support the comments on the wonderful performance by the vocalist, especially on track no.7. I cannot understand how someone could say she does not fit into the music when it is obvious she is the only group member that really stands out. It's curious also not to see her appearing among the guest artists or even in the album credits. Primitive reason it is indeed.
