Lord Have Mercy!,
By Wanda B. Campbell "Author and Avid Reader" (San Francisco Bay Area) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Somebody Prayed For Me (Paperback)
Have you ever been in a position where you couldn't or didn't think to pray for yourself? In Somebody Prayed For Me, literary sisters Linda R. Herman, Allyson M. Deese, and Tinisha N. Johnson reminds you of that place. While taking you through the valley, Somebody Prayed For Me, restores faith and an appreciation for that old congregational song.
These stories not only touch the soul, but also raises awareness to the plight that women in every economical and social status suffer on a daily basis. From HIV awareness to mental and physical abuse, these ladies leave no stone unturned.

A very REAL book,
This review is from: Somebody Prayed For Me (Paperback)
I do not know if the stories in this book are real, but they read as if they could be. Very eye opening. I typically like to read books that are more uplifting. This book is not uplifting at the beginning. 'Somebody prayed for me' started out giving me a depressing feeling about the world and the choices that people make. As I read further, the message of the importance of prayer came through.
I like the message of knowing that even when you can barely help yourself, someone else out there is praying for you. It may be someone who knows you, or it may not. The book sets a goal to inspire and remind everyone of the importance of prayer. I think this book achieves that goal, and provides much more.

The revised and edited version of this title releases December 2, 2008,from Xpress Yourself Publishing, www.XpressYourselfPublishing.org.
From the author of "Discovering the Joy Within", you will read the story of a woman who has known nothing but abuse her entire life but the final straw is when she loses her unborn child at the hands of her husband, the man who should have been her protector. Allyson M. Deese presents, "Her Silent Hell." Linda R. Herman is the author of Consequences, a novel that was written with hopes of raising HIV awareness. In "Silent Cries", this author brings you the story of a teenaged mother who suffers abuse and ultimately rape at the hands of her child's father. How can she pick up the pieces and move on? The author of "Searchable Whereabouts", Tinisha Nicole Johnson wrote a true to life story in "Facing Reality." A mother, so consumed with her own grief, tries to drown her sorrows in alcohol. Sadly, she doesn't realize how her behavior is affecting her 12 year old daughter until she makes a shocking discovering. Somebody Prayed for Me offers readers short stories and poems that give shining examples that prayer is still powerful, if only you just believe and hold tight to your faith in a higher power. Visit our website at wwww.somebodyprayed4me.webs.com We do hope that you will check back for our release on December 2, 2008. In the meantime feel free to check out our other works. Allyson M. Deese's short story "Discovering the Joy Within" can be found in The Triumph of My Soul. Prayer Changes Things,
By OOSA Online Book Club "O.O.S.A. Gets It Read!" (World Wide Web, USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Somebody Prayed For Me (Paperback)
SOMEBODY PRAYED FOR ME, an anthology written by Allison M. Deese, Linda R. Herman and Tinisha N. Johnson, tells multiple stories that deal with individuals coping with horrendous situations, whether its abuse - sexual, physical, or mental, rape, molestation, jealousy, betrayal, and grief, each person learns to believe in a higher power. While some doubt that they can't escape what they feel is holding them down, the prayers of others help to change their outlooks on life.
Though SOMEBODY PRAYED FOR ME relates to very hard topics, I was a little disappointed that the three contributing authors wrote multiple smaller stories versus three stories in total. Each story, and or poem, has an invaluable lesson; unfortunately, the book was one repeat after the next. Instead of being able to grasp the characters, it was a narrative. SOMEBODY PRAYED FOR ME is an easy read, but in this reader's opinion I would've liked a more profound story from each person. Ladies, I look forward to reading more from you'll soon. Best of luck!
