2.0 out of 5 stars "The Sweet Burning Bush"!
The Regal Sisterhood Book Club selected this novel as the January 2010 Book of the Month. We were so disappointed. The book overview seemed to promise a great storyline and entertaining read. The novel actually starts off with suspense and intrigue. The characters are interesting and appear to have a life into which the reader is easily drawn in. Unfortunately, around...

5.0 out of 5 stars Church Secrets, January 6, 2010
This review is from: Somebody's Sinning In My Bed (Paperback)
Sisters Chyna and Janelle were very close to one another, but they were complete opposites. Both were equally beautiful, but Chyna was very conservative and saved. Janelle was a outspoken free spirit that took risks that Chyna would never dream of. When Chyna married Rev. Grayson Young and became First Lady of New Hope, she was content with how her life turned out...that was until her husband passed away. Her life then became a world wind of despair, and she didn't know if she was coming or going. Since Rev. Young's passing, she didn't know what her place would be in the church. Normally, if the Pastor of the church passes away, the church becomes a lot of chaos with no direction in mind. But in this case, it was the opposite. The elders wanted the congregation to band together and keep the church on track. Soon, Chyna realizes that not everything is the way it seems.

With Chyna grieving her husband's sudden death, someone from her sister's past suddenly appears and all of the past hurt has resurfaced. Not only that, the Pastor's aide is giving her grief and it is not pretty. While all this is going on, the one person Chyna can confide in is Deacon Pillar. Deacon Pillar is a true man of God and holds no punches. He will tell it like it is, and if you don't like it, oh well. Chyna will find out that forgiving yourself can be one of the most hardest things you could ever do. Will she be able to forgive and let go?

In the novel Somebody's Sinning In My Bed, author Pat G'Orge-Walker put together a book about happiness, forgiveness, sadness, faithfulness, and the list could go on and on. You are immediately taken in by each character and how the saints in the church are sinners that have not changed, and don't intend to. The detail that the author put into each character was just enough for you to understand what they were going through when situations would arise. I enjoyed reading this book, because you laugh, cry, get mad, and you may even get a little deliverance for yourself. Somebody's Sinning In My Bed is a very good read, and I highly recommend it.

Pat has done IT again. IT being biblical insight and views brought to the page without preaching. This writer has a witty and delightful way to entertain and enlighten her reader. She's slick with words and situations that keep you engaged in the reading and plot. I loved the ride and colorful characters. Whether you're actively involved in a church or not, you can relate to or know at least one of God's creations in this book. We meet REAL humans dealing with and expressing real emotions, wants, needs and experiences. This is an author who has put her stamp on Christian Fiction with a comedic flair. What I found creative was G'Orge-Walker has taken a biblical verse and situation and put her own spin to it. Loved It! A must read.

This review is from: Somebody's Sinning In My Bed (Paperback)
With drama worthy of being featured on Eyewitness News, Author Pat G'orge-Walker's latest novel begins with a bang. Chyna and Janelle are sisters who carry a whole lot of baggage around, neither forgiving the other for past indiscretions but both needing that sisterly bond.

Chyna is married to the Reverend Grayson leader of New Hope Assembly. She is aware that her husband not only reaches out and touches the members of his church; he has also made a name for himself at the Sweet Bush Lounge.

A deadly catastrophe takes place at the Sweet Bush Lounge and Reverend Grayson and wife Chyna are thrust into the spotlight.
Chyna is at a lost when the media and investigators come calling, trying to piece together what happened. She turns to her sister Janelle who tries to protect Chyna although she holds a deep long time grudge against her.

Everybody at New Hope assembly is stunned at the turn of events but instead of coming together in the slanderous fall out of the first family, the church begins to point fingers and toss around assumptions.
Some people make judgments all the time never one day thinking they'll be judge themselves, and this holds true for Pastor's aide Sister Blackstone and the church board members.

During all the chaos, Cordell Janelle's first love comes back to town to try and help the sisters but his presence only brings back buried resentment between the sisters.

Somebody's Sinning in My Bed will have you engrossed in church folk business and you may raise and eyebrow or two as you read how the characters go about resolving their dilemmas and issues.
Everyone has their own way to deal with certain situations, as you will see when some characters are thrown a curve ball or two.

Deacon Pillar had me laughing with his outlandish ways!
This is a wonderful read with a clear message that speaks volumes!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read, October 28, 2009
This review is from: Somebody's Sinning In My Bed (Paperback)
In the latest book by Pat G'orge Walker (also known as Sister Betty), Chyna and Janelle are two sisters who have shared more than blood. The truth is they share spirits that have been broken by their own poor choices, unhealthy relationships, low self-esteem, and a void left by the premature death of their parents. They've also shared a man; the once manipulative, now humbly saved Cordell, who, after several years away, finds himself back in the middle of the sisters' lives and their drama.

All parties are brought together after the infamous death of Chyna's husband and Cordell's former college roommate, the esteemed Reverend Grayson Young in a seedy sex club in Brooklyn. As the story unfolds, a cast of shady and judgemental church folk, particularly the high and mighty Sis. Eartha, use their twisted version of Christianity to bring the sisters down and protect the good name of their no good Pastor.

Walker captivates you with her one of a kind, straightforward writing style. In other words, she tells it like it is, was, and ever will be...all within the scope of 200+ pages. Her characters are wild and unkempt; loud, fence straddlers at whom you want to scream but also hold close; slap around a few times and of course, pray for fervently. In spite of the scandalousness of their actions, you root for them because you want them to redeem themselves...quick! With every page turn, you want them to get it together because they remind you of your own journey to God and the expansiveness of His grace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mayhem among sex, love and lies!, October 27, 2009
This review is from: Somebody's Sinning In My Bed (Paperback)
Any book by best-selling author Pat G'Orge Walker is worth time and vested reasons not to put it down! `Somebody's Sinning In My Bed' is a story paradoxical in nature with the nauture of adultery explored through the antics of a set of flawed characters written with verve. It's the Biblical story from John 8:3-11 all over again where God forgives a woman conducting an ilicit affair. The author does a credible job of weaving the story around a significant statement regarding judging others prematurelyu, while admonishing his disciples to prove themselves otherwise. The scripture leaves the room dim but with just enough light to to expose others. With a stunning storyline she flips the script, fast forwards to modern times and handcuffs the man who surely thought he'd gotten away. Let's get to the gist of this poignant read where the hunt for the forbiden is just as satisfying as getting it. The story is set in Brooklyn - notorious for mayhem, mischief and the misbehaving. We find Chyna Young and Janelle Pierce, sisters with discord and a distant fued stemming from occasional spats, and Janelle's taboo act of stealing her sister's boyfriend years ago. As their sibling rivalry reverberate with ongoing angst, the plot thickens a bit and focuses on New Hope Assembly, a church searching for an identity atypical of its leader. Reverend Grayson Young is a flawed minister who happen to get caught at the infamous Sweet Bush Lounge., Wrap this around the fact that Chyna, who is married to the `good' Reverend is forced to bear the humiliation as First Lady and turns to Janelle for help. Meanwhile the church is in chaos trying to cope with the Pastor's infidelity.

Will Janelle help, hinder or harangue her sister in her time of need? Will she be willing to forget and forgive; Or, will she revert to tending to her own set of problems? Meanwhile, Cornell Dewitt, he of good looks street smarts and a conniving spirit suggesting that he gets what he wants. Two-timing and not missing a step he falls prey to inuendo and allows it to enhance enmity between two sisters caught in a triumverate web of lies and deceit. Readers will want to know who will be the first to unlock the door to adultery, and who indeed holds the key! If power was a risky and persistent aphrodiasiac, then opportunistic value is much more coveted by all the players in this drama who seeks redemption. It proves to be a slow road to salvation as the author deftly writes indelibly. She shows that adultery (through her characters here) knows no boundaries when the equation is a formula that would take serious arithmetic to solve. When you play by numbers, make sure they add up, and with Chyna, Janelle, Cordell and the Reverend there is no common denominator.

This is a typical Pat G'Orge-Walker novel in the sense that it's well-written and full of intrigue. The chapters are short and breezy with a cliffhanger-type mettle that makes it anticipatory of what will happen next. The story flows with good continuity that says a lot about how balanced the book is. In my opinion, this is the best book that I've read of this author and I've read them all! The stroy has the type of ending that reeks of a sequel. Albeit, this is a must read for those that feel that there's much more to this author that hasn't tipped the proverbial iceberg. Moreover, the author's assessment is that, "readers will hopefully learn that when you are forgiven by God there's no need for a second opinion. And one should never think lesser of themselves than God does". Superlative recognition for this effort is truly indicative of the 5 stars that I give it. Read it and know that Kensignton has a winner here!

This book is great!!!!! I love the way that Pat G'Orge-Walker describes the details of what is going on so that you feel like you are right there in the middle of all of the action! Walker has all of the main characters (Chyna, Jannelle, Cordell) interacting in such a way that you are very emotional about their situation and making you wonder if you are going to finish reading because you are too emotional - just then you are reeled back in with the moral of their situation and their story. She gives you background on each character and brings everything full circle so that you can see how everything is working together. In the process of giving you something good to read, Walker also gives you something to think about without being too churchy (is that a word, LOL). Walker gives you another great book!

5.0 out of 5 stars God Loves You..So Just Accept That, September 24, 2009
This review is from: Somebody's Sinning In My Bed (Paperback)
Milbourne Biddy Stafford writes:

Somebody's Sinning In My Bed is truly a must read for anyone who enjoys reading fine Christian novels. It is a well written story about two sisters who chose different paths in life and ended up on the same road.

It tells not only of God's forgiveness, but also about forgiving others and yourself, and allowing God to use you no matter how awful you think you have been, or how messed up you think your life has been.

Somebody's Sinning In My Bed is about getting out of your way and letting God show you He is God. It's about standing still and seeing the salvation of the Lord and that if you let the Lord fight your battles He will make your enemies your footstool. It's about finding your way when you feel all hope is lost. It lets us know that if God doesn't think any less of us why should think less of ourselves. It shows of God love, His grace, and His mercy for us. It lets us see that we are God's children and if God can love us in our mess and even when we mess up why should we judge ourselves harder than He does.

For anyone that is going through something or has low self-esteem please read Somebody's Sinning In My Bed and allow the anointed words of this book and the Spirit of God minister to your soul. It is truly a blessing to read and it will make you laugh, cry and even see yourself somewhere in the story. Read it and be blessed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Laughter is the Best Medicine of All!, September 21, 2009
This review is from: Somebody's Sinning In My Bed (Paperback)
"Somebody's Sinning in My Bed" by Pat G'Orge-Walker is a delightful treat! It is primarily the tale of two sisters - different as salt and pepper, yet with similar seasoning. Although different, both sisters have the same number of skeletons in the closet and many people are counting! Chyna is First Lady of New Hope Assembly, a church full of more scandals and mess than "The National Enquirer." To the outside world, Chyna has it going on - she is saved, she is beautiful, has all the treasures money can buy, and has the respectful title as First Lady, married to New Hope's leader, Reverend Grayson Young. Despite all of this, Chyna is unhappy and unfulfilled with her life and herself. Chyna's sister, Janelle, is also beautiful, outspoken, single, and could care less about the inside of a church and/or bible. Janelle and Chyna both harbor an unspoken grudge against one another, and cannot be in the same room longer than a few minutes without conflict - yet they love each other and have each other's back (um...well not all of the time).

The story heats up (literally) when an unsavory club in the neighborhood, Sweet Bush Lounge burns down, and the good Reverend Grayson Young is caught in a scandal that will change the lives of Chyna, Janelle, many colorful characters of New Hope Assembly Church and anyone else connected to Chyna and Janelle. To add more fuel to the fire, Janelle's first love, Cordell, shows up like the ghost from Christmas past, with enough skeletons in his own closet to host an anatomy class. Cordell has a few scores to settle with both Chyna and Janelle and in the process, the floodgates of hell are opened and there is no turning back.

One character readers will never forget is Deacon Pillar. Deacon Pillar steps in to provide help to Chyna, Janelle and Cordell and other members at New Hope Assembly - by any means necessary! Deacon Pillar had me laughing until my side hurt. I could visualize an entire book based on his character alone.

Overall, I highly recommend this book! Author Pat G'Orge-Walker stepped out on faith, tried something a little different and hit a home run! Despite everything that is going on in the world right now, it was truly refreshing to pick up a good book and laugh...and laugh....and laugh again. "Somebody's Sinning in My Bed" confirms that laughter is the best medicine of all - it was just what the doctor ordered!

This review is from: Somebody's Sinning In My Bed (Paperback)
Pat G'Orge Walker's latest book is filled with characters that jump off the page. The books opening sets the tone for the fast pace story. Chyna feels her current tragedy is just payback for the sins she committed. The stress leads her sister Janelle to come to her rescue. There's several twists and turns in the story that will not let you put the book down. Chyna is the first lady and has to deal with several church members who are determined to get rid of her. Those same church members have a past that would make Chyna's seem meek and mild.

Pat G'Orge Walker has a way of showing us our flaws in a humorous manner. She reminds us through her writing that all of us have sinned and shouldn't point fingers at others.

I highly recommend this book.

Somebody's Sinning in My Bed
Pat G'Orge Walker

5 Stars *****

When The Sweet Bush Lounge burns down, all hell breaks loose at New Hope Assembly, Church. The Reverend Grayson Young's "good book" is not good at all. The "talented" First Lady of New Hope, Chyna, is at the church's mercy and doesn't know why. Janelle, Chyna's sister comes to help her sister out, BUT now the sisters Ex Cordell shows up! What a mess. Then add in several pious church members who have their own agenda, and secrets of their own, stirring the pot calling the kettle black.

This was an excellent read an quite a turn for author Pat G'Orge Walker. She has packed so much love, redemption and wisdom in the chaotic tale, of sinners, yet reminds us all that every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future.
