Book Description

5 and upK and up
After his parents and grandfather kept pushing activities to that most overscheduled day of the week- Someday - young Max searches for that elusive day on his calendar. The days of the week come to life and explain someday is actually not a day of the week.

"We can't always make room for the things that matter most," Sunday said kindly. "If you want to do something, Max, don't wait for Someday, pick one of us."

To his great relief Max's family realizes that Someday is today as they head off to the fair, to build a fort, and for an evening of fishing.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 3–A beaver longs to have some fun with the adults in his life but they are all too busy. "Someday, Max, but not today" is their favorite reply to each requested activity. He sits down with a calendar, and the days of the week tell him the truth about "Someday." When he passes on his newfound knowledge to his mother, she responds in a positive manner and suddenly all of his wishes come true. The artwork, rendered in watercolors, is expressive and conveys Max's goofy innocence. When "Someday" is transformed into "today," the abrupt shift feels like a sudden stop on an amusement ride. Perhaps the book is intended as a word of warning for adults. For children, the message appears that they need only crack a mysterious verbal code and their most cherished dreams will be instantly gratified. A clever idea, but the writing falls short of its promise.– Teresa Pfeifer, Alfred Zanetti Montessori Magnet School, Springfield, MA

This review is from: Someday Is Not a Day of the Week (Hardcover)
I had the opportunity to hear the author read this story and immediately bought it for my son and kdg classroom! It is a great reminder, for in our demanding world, that always keeps us 'busy', we mustn't put off SOMEDAY what we can do today!
I plan on reading it to the parents on the next parent teacher night!

5.0 out of 5 stars I bought one, then five more, September 18, 2005

This review is from: Someday Is Not a Day of the Week (Hardcover)
I bought one copy of "Someday," anticipating it as a gift for my oldest grandson. But after reading the book, I decided this is a book for parents and grandparents, and then ordered five more copies to make sure I have plenty for relatives and friends.

"Someday" is a reminder that was cannot let the busy-ness of life take us away from the important things in life -- spending time with your children and grandchildren.

Both in words and pictures, this is a marvelous tale.

A great story that makes parents realize the time we have with our children is limited, in spite of how busy we think we are. Good for use with kids; led to rich discussions about the meaning of the book and connections we can make to the book from our own lives. Nicely done.
