Great CD,

This is one of the few CDs I can listen to without skipping a track. I'm sick of all these new screaming metal bands (I'm looking your way Alexis on Fire) so its good to hear actual singing with the rock music. I cant recommend this enough.

Simply Amazing,

This CD is awesome. I don't know what that one review is talking about. The audience for this is anybody that likes well-written, well-performed music. There is not one weak point on this album, everything straight-up rocks. There is no screaming, and there is no whining (which many people seem to like these days. ???) Chris Brown delivers a stunning performance on vocals, fitting the excellent musicianship perfectly. I cannot wait for an opportunity to see these guys live. They kick ass.

Trapt and their sophmore cd is in control, maybe even 4.5 stars,

First off, I can never review a CD right away. No way. I have to wait a while. I have to hear it all, read it all, and absorb everything that a band has to offer. After hearing Stand Up on the radio the first time, I was not hooked right away, it actually took awhile for me to like it because it sounded like Headstrong or Echo. But after actuallly reading the lyrics and seeing the whole album for the first time in my hand after I bought it, It clicked. Now don't get me wrong, their self tittled first cd was down right brilliant, and the best cd you could ask for from a "who the heck are these guys...what?..they were still in high school when they recorded this...and have a possible platinum album someday" band. Yes. That is Trapt. Their sophmore cd is a great follow up. No where near their first, but hands down way above average then a normal band that just couldn't produce a solid second cd. They are in conntrol, and have nowhere to go but up. I seen them open for Default and Nickelback, and they definantly got me hooked on all their songs. I'm always worried that these "more popular" bands that people always know because of their hits off the radio, won't step it up and perform. Oh but they did. They put on a great show, and everybody liked them. Definantly fun seeing live. Back to their cd Someone in Control. Other then Stand Up (it will get you hooked), Lost Realist, Bleed Like Me, Disconnected, Victim, and Waiting are all going to get you in a mood that only Trapt can create. Hats off to Trapt to a solid 2nd release. Trapt fans will be impressed, other people will shrug their shoulders and say "Hey, their just another band that sounds the same trying to get the popular demand." No way. That is not Trapt. They are in a group by theirselves. Be in control and buy this album. If you don't have their first album, that IS a must have before this one.

Trapt's 'Coming Of Age' Third Release,
By
This review is from: Someone in Control (Audio CD)
This is the follow up to the 2002 release. This album is exceptional and the best the North Californian young band has come up with so-far. With only one listen of 'Someone In Control' I was hooked. Maybe initially it was the CD artwork that pictured a working class man who seemed to have it all, on his bed with his head in his hands. For me this picture could have depicted me. How many times have we felt not in control of our lives, of our family, of our work? This album was made for the working man and woman and I will explain why.
It is quite unique to find an album with the first 3 songs pretty much the best in the album. 'Disconnected' deals with how each of us can feel apart, out of touch with our loved one's, our friends and colleagues. The lyrics are sung gracefully and full of meaning with the abtuse deep rock riffs in the background. 'Waiting' and 'Victim' are songs for the working man/woman. The lyrics depict a person who falls victim to a unfeeling/uncaring working society. Another great song is 'Lost Realist' that is a song based on our morals and how they stand up to today's reality. Are we going to stand by our morals or succumb to the flavour of the month? This song asks the listener to think and reflect on what we term 'reality'. This is a thoroughly enjoyable album with a great message of hope and reflection within its lyrics and Trapt have earned my respect in their approach. Through the on the road experience they are trying to impart what they have shared and learned to their fans. There are no mindless lyrics here. This album is great. Nothing is skin deep. This CD is for any rock fan and especially for die hard Trapt fans.

TrapT is stronger than ridicule,

Strengths: Same great band with the familiar powerful heartfelt strengths that made them strong in their first cd. Unless you're looking for them to sound exactly the same with the same exact songs with a snapple of change here and there you won't be let down. I actually kind of like this cd better. It's guitar heavy, energetic raw emotional tough guy music all the way through. Basically nothing wrong with this cd.
Weaknesses: TrapT's unloyal fans, God! I hate to see people hating on TrapT. Come out of 2002 people! TrapT is victim of their own innovation. That is to say, their first album which is so perfect would be one of the toughest albums to ever try to match. I think they done well and maybe actually sound better to boot. I thought the first cd had some boring songs on it. I havent found one song on this cd that's not bursting with flavor. This is a new cd (news flash). No, no headstrong, still frame, made of glass, or anything else that was on the first cd(duh!!). I realize most everyone was so in love with the old TrapT cd so much they find it hard to move on and accept anything new. But this is new and this is a great cd, too!!! =D YIPPEE!! As for a new sound. I am actually glad they didn't go for a new sound or wear the hell out of an old sound(like FLAW-endangered species & Linkin Park-meteora respectfully). I am happy TrapT is still around and I am thankful for them, their first cd and Someone In Control. It sounds good to me all the way through I AM NOT disapointed at all! I think they are a better band now. That's my take on the situation.

More upbeat than their first album, and this results in good music from Trapt. There are a couple of slower tempo songs on here, relating back to their self-titled album.
1} "Disconnected" - 9/10 Starts the album with a true rocker 2} "Waiting" - 9.5/10 My 2nd favorite on the album... well rehearsed vocals through the verses with a rocking chorus 3} "Victim" - 8/10 Not one of the best but solid 4} "Stand Up" - 9.5/10 First single here... this one keeps up with almost any Trapt song 5} "Lost Realist" - 10/10 BEST SONG ON ALBUM... beautiful, slower-mid tempo... has to be a single someday... compares with "These Walls" 6} "Skin Deep" - 7.5/10 Like #3, not one of the best, but it's ok 7} "Influence" - 8.5/10 Sets the median for the album... lyrics are great 8} "Repeat Offender" - 8.5/10 Probably in the better half of the album... a rocking song 9} "Bleed Like Me" - 9.5/10 At first, it was ok... now it's near as good as "Stand Up" 10} "Use Me to Use You" - 8/10 Gets better the more you listen to it 11} "Product of My Own Design" - 9/10 An awesome way to put the finishing touch on 'Someone in Control' I recommend this album to anyone that likes Trapts first album. Get a glimpse of an awesome song and a median song of this album to help you decide whether you will like it or not. Try my favorite "Lost Realist" and for the albums tone "Product of My Own Design"

I write quite a few reviews on here every so often, and I hate to see someone bad mouth bands just because they may be heard on the radio or on MTV. I can't say that every band that gets a lot of air play I enjoy or support, but I wouldn't take anything away from Trapt. They actually have an album that was out before their self-titled Album. That makes 3, but the first one did not get studio support. Anyway I do like "someone in control" and I feel that Chris did write some good lyrics with catchy hooks. That's fine in this case because they are actually really good. He didn't have to yell F*** in certain parts of their songs as he did in their last album to give them any of a harder edge. It does take a little time to get use to a bands new album after they had such a great first one, but Trapt did a good job of making them equal. I also like how they kept their same style, and didn't change or evolve into something too different. Some bands should just keep on doing what they've done in the past and that will keep people happy. Sometimes they end up sucking, because they try too much to keep up with genre. Once again these are my opinions.

Wow!,

After a long wait of 3 years, Trapt finally put out a sophomore album...and what an album. When I first listened to this CD, I thought, "Its very good but I think I like the first album better." I think the only reason I thought that is because I had been listening to that album for so long, it just seemed to be everything that Trapt should be. However, it only took 2 or 3 more listens of THIS album where I started thinking that it was BETTER than the first. I loved Trapt's debut album, but my only complaint about it was that the 2 main singles (Headstrong, Still Frame) seemed to be the only metal songs on the disc. But on "Someone In Control", just about every song is heavy and energetic, with only about 2 slower songs.
The album's first single, "Stand Up", is a very good song. However it's not even one of my favorites. I think songs like "New Victim", "Lost Realist" and especially "Waiting" are some of the best songs the band has written yet. I saw one reviewer write that this album doesn't sound like the band has grown or expanded their sound at all. I can respect that, because I usually prefer a lot of growth on each new record from a band. However, I can't complain in Trapt's case because the songs are so catchy. They may have chosen not to experiment much, but they certainly haven't lost their touch for good song-writing. |
