More About the Author

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Susan Mallery has entertained millions of readers with her witty and emotional stories about women and the relationships that define their lives. She has published more than 100 romance and women's fiction novels, beginning with two books the same month when she was just out of college. Her books have spent more than 120 weeks on the USA Today bestsellers list and have reached as high as #2 on the New York Times bestsellers list, statistically tied for #1 (THREE LITTLE WORDS, a Fool's Gold romance). Known for her keen insight into human nature and her humorous take on life, Susan Mallery has been described by RT Book Reviews as "in a class by herself!" and was featured as a Red Hot Read in Cosmopolitan Magazine. In 2013 and 2014, four of her books were named each year to Amazon's "Best Book of the Month" list.

With a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Susan is one of the few writers who can understand her royalty statement. She went on to get a Masters in Writing Popular Fiction and has extensively studied story structure in screenwriting courses, though she has no plans to write for the screen. Her goal, always, is to give readers a story that will move them, populated with characters who feel like real people.

Booklist says, "Novels don't get much better than Mallery's expert blend of emotional nuance, humor, and superb storytelling," and Publisher's Weekly calls her prose "luscious and provocative." Susan appreciates critical praise, but she values praise from her readers even more. She credits her successful career to the loyal readers who rush out to buy each new book on the day it's released.

With the advent of ebooks, Susan's career has soared even higher, and her books make regular appearances on both print and ebook bestsellers lists. She has embraced the Digital Age with a robust website (www.susanmallery.com), an active presence on Facebook (www.facebook.com/susanmallery) and a free Susan Mallery app for the iPhone, iPad, and Android devices (www.mobileroadie.com/apps/susanmallery). At www.foolsgoldca.com, she also provides bonus content such as after-the-happily-ever-after updates for the Fool's Gold romances, her most popular ongoing series.

Born and raised in California, Susan lives with her family in Seattle, where she survives the dreary days of winter with the help of a "happy lamp" and plenty of coffee.

Read this one...you can't put it down.

While the plot follows the typical romance formula, each of the characters has enough quirks and complexities to make this a fun read.

After catching her sleazy husband Lyle in his office literally with his pants down, Jill is summarily fired from her law firm. Ever resourceful, she returns to her hometown of Los Lobos, where she takes over an eclectic law practice until she can find the perfect corporate gig. MacKenzie Kendrick has returned to Los Lobos also. The object of Jill's teenage crush, he returned to bring a little stability to his life after years of undercover work have left him on the edge and ever further from his daughter. In order to share future custody of Emily with his ex, he has to keep his nose clean as the new sheriff of Los Lobos. A hard proposition for the former bad boy turned lawman, whose biggest feat will be breaking down the barrier his daughter has established between them. Jill's last memory of Mac is her 18th birthday, where she waited in his bedroom and bared all with the intention of seducing him. He promptly threw up. The next time she was ready to bare all for a guy, Evan took one look at her and pronounced he was gay. Since Lyle did not throw up or have a sudden lifestyle change, she married him.

Mallery's writing is crisp and funny, the romance spicy, and her characters memorable. Add assorted quirky citizens including a tarot card reading aunt, mobsters, a secretary who doesn't want to put in a full day's work, and a cranky old man who wants to sue his neighbor over a fence built a century ago, and you have a riveting story about small town life that only Mallery could come up with. I cannot get enough of her books!

Susan Mallery's books are like fine chocolate or good wine, they're meant to be savored. I love that she doesn't rely on shock value to grab her readers. Someone Like You is not about who can blow up the most stuff or who does the most explicit/kinky sex scene. The characters, Jill and Mac, are people I could relate to, people I can picture living in my town.

I love Jill's and Mac's shared history, and the way they slowly fall in love. This is such a warm, wonderful book, a true love story that also deals with a lot of issues that readers can relate to like divorce, bumps in one's career, family.

I was so worried for Mac's little daughter, Emily, who is scarred from the past. I had tears in my eyes reading about her thoughts and doubts. But the book made me laugh, too, especially the sparkling dialogue between the two main characters.

By the time I was done with the book, I felt like I knew the town of Los Lobos and made friends with some of its citizens. An entertaining and delightful read.

This is the first book I read from this author. From the first page, I was able to empathize with the heroine's feelings. I like the realistic progress of the relationship of the hero and heroine. I also like the heroine being portray as a strong career woman who can stand on her own, but still vulnerable and compassionate. The hero is caring and warm. I appreciate that their relationship progress naturally without the usual plot device of a big misunderstanding (thank goodness!) and they communicate with each other like the mature adults that they are. If this is the type of books I can look forward to from this author, then I am definitely onboard!

In San Francisco, attorney Jill Strathern goes to see her spouse, who practices law in the same office. However, instead of legal or family matters, she catches Lyle with his pants down having sex with his assistant. Lyle's blithe comment is that she should have knocked. Reeling from the unfaithfulness of the man who supposedly loved her, that afternoon her firm gives Jill the pink slip, something that her rat of her husband caused. Taking their communal property car that he loves, Jill goes home to Los Lobos, California to temporarily take over a local practice.

Former Los Angeles police officer Mackenzie Kendrick returns home following the death of his partner and the subsequent death of his marriage as his wife could not cope with the darkness that engulfs him to become sheriff. When Mac and Jill meet, an attraction heats up between them, but she remembers as a teen stripping in front of him only to have him puke. As they fall in love while trying to pick up the pieces of their respective lives, neither sees hope for a future together as he plans to stay while she plans to move elsewhere to apply her corporate law expertise.

SOMEONE LIKE YOU is an entertaining legal thriller police procedural romance starring two delightful protagonists who know that like years ago the timing is wrong. The story line focuses obviously on the growing heated love between the lead protagonists, but also provides the audience with a deep look at a small town legal practice and sheriff's department with a dose of small town justice. Fans will relish Susan Mallory's fabulously fervent romantic cozy.

This is a feel-good romance about Jill, a San Francisco lawyer whose husband betrays her and then takes the coveted job promotion she wanted while she gets fired. Jill returns to her small California hometown - in her huband's BMW - to lick her wounds and figure out her life. Coincidentally, her complicated high school crush, Mac, has also returned to their hometown to put his life back together. Mac moves in next to Jill and her aunt while he works as a sheriff and tries to repair his relationship with his young daughter. Unfortunately for Jill, he doesn't want the complication of becoming entangled with her.
Meanwhile, Jill temporarily takes over the law office for a local attorney who has recently died; his secretary makes no secret of her contempt for Jill. Amidst all of this, there is romance, intrigue and heated small-town politics. While the plot follows the typical romance formula, each of the characters has enough quirks and complexities to make this a fun read.
