3.0 out of 5 stars Once Ruff Endz develops an identity they will be Ok., October 1, 2002

This review is from: Someone to Love You (Audio CD)
You will not find too many negative reviews done by me. I always listen to a CD multiple times to be able to form an unbiased opinion about the CD that I bought and listened to. But as my mother would say, honesty is the best policy. The best thing about Ruff Endz' first CD, "Love Crimes", is that the CD was full of ballads and their first single, "No More", didn't dictate the flow of the rest of the CD. Slow jams like "Love Crimes", "I'm Not Sayin' That, I'm Feeling That", "Saying That I Love You", "I Apologize", "The World To Me", and "If I Was The One" would make you think that this group had a bright future. After listening to their 2nd CD, "Someone To Love You", you will wonder what happened and also decide that Ruff Endz are trying to do too much at one time. The first 2 songs on this CD are clearly the best songs on the CD. "Someone To Love You" plays as the prelude to the next slow jam, "Will You Be Mine" and fans of "Love Crimes" will be pleased with those songs. It sounds as if they actually took their time with these 2 songs and realized that they would make or break the CD. The next song, "You" is not that bad, but it sounds like a leftover slow jam from Brian McKnight's last CD, almost like a pop slow jam. From there, Ruff Endz can't decide if they want to tackle, Jodeci (Shake It), R Kelly (Would You Leave Me), Dru Hill (If It Wasn't For...) and we won't even talk about the Memphis Bleek featured "Cars, Money, Cars, and Clothes". The song is as generic as the title. This theme is played out and should be left alone. ...And the all time low, music listeners, is when Ruff Endz features a slow jam that was on their debut CD on "Someone To Love You". The song "You Mean The World To Me" is the exact same track that is on "Love Crimes" entitled "World To Me". Now if they would have released this song as a single, I may have understood, but since it hasn't I am confused. When Ruff Endz are belting romantic harmonies, they are at their best. If they stick to that formula, then they may have a chance to release another CD. If not then they will be just another r&b group that will be known for just 1 or 2 songs. Other tracks worth checking out are "Bigger", "Look To The Hills" and one of the few uptempo songs worth listening to, "Kamasutra". Ruff Endz has a lot of talent. They should leave all the uptempo songs about Bentleys, Ice, Ballers & SUVs alone and stick to what they do best, which is slow jams and romantic midtempo songs. They might want to find some producers that are best suited for their style of music as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sophmore Album, May 14, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Someone to Love You (Audio CD)
This is such a good cd! There are at least 3 great love songs plus some good non-love r&b songs. My favorite song has to be Will You Be Mine, with the title song Someone To Love You a close second. The only thing I didn't understand about this cd is that they put one of the songs off of their first album Love Crimes on this cd. It is still a really good song though. If you like real r&b then you will love this cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ruff Endz do it again!, May 20, 2002

When I first heard their song no more, I knew that these guys had something big going for them. Their first album, Love Crimes, was a great CD. They have real tallent, unlike many of these knock off "Thug R&B" singers who only focus on degrating women, and rap-singing. Although Ruff Endz do include songs of this nature, they mainly focus on actual singin and love songs. They have finally created their follow up album, and they still are keeping it fresh. Their title track is one of the most incredible slow song ever. It has great words, beautiful music, and their voices blow me away. Also songs like Cash, money, cars, clothes and Shake it have great beats and a rap-like feel. If you really like "Thug R&B" then you may only like a few songs from this album. If you truly apreciate two singers with great voices and well written songs, then I highly reccomend this CD.
