Watch out for Ari Hest in the near future ..,
By Max Guevara (GA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Someone to Tell (Audio CD)
Ari Hest is simply A-Mazing. Call him another John Mayer or Jason Mraz but truth be told their music simply does not compare to Ari Hest's music. His voice is so much slicker, bolder, and sexier than Mayer and Mraz combined. Now tack on some crazy guitar with rhythmes you've never imagined. Then you've got half of Ari Hest. The other half? Well, it's all in the lyrics.
Good music is when you hear a song and groove to the beat and sing along and have a good time. Great music is when you hear a song and the music makes you stop what you're were doing, move to the music and really listen to the lyrics and be able to hear the artist in your head. That's what Ari can do, that's what he makes possible with Someone to Tell. If you're a Tyler Hilton, Howie Day, Michael Tolcher, Ryan Cabrera, and/or Matt Nathanson fan you'd definitely dig Ari Hest. If not, and you're into acoustics then Ari is your man. Otherwise, just check him out and you won't be disappointed.

Ari Hest is GREAT, but this CD doesn't prove it....,

I'm giving this album a three because I don't want his ratings to go down far and have people thinking he stinks. Ari is AWESOME, but this CD sure isn't.
If you're in the mood to hear some of his best stuff get a copy of "Story after Story"... Ari built up an entire fan base on his own by singing what came from the heart and recording it as he saw fit. His voice is mesmerizing, and he really did know how to show it off best. I was so excited about him being recognized, but I'm not excited about the overproduction of music. Many of the repeated songs on this album can't compare to the original. Check out his website and get his old stuff, you will NOT be disapointed!!

A phenomenally talented singer with a bright future.,

About 6 1/2 hours ago, I saw Ari Hest in concert here in Kansas City as one of 2 opening acts for O.A.R. (the other opening act being another incredible band, Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers). His name was familiar to me, but I had never heard his music prior to tonight. One of the greatest experiences in concert-going is when you are treated to opening acts that don't suck. Both Stephen AND Ari put on hellaciously energetic performances that got us adequately heated up for the wonderful experience that is O.A.R. live.
But I digress. Ari has a husky, passionate singing voice that reminds me somewhat of the late, great Robert Palmer and a fine talent for pure pop songwriting. I am, as I write this, listening to SOMEONE TO TELL for the first time and I have to be in agreement, somewhat, with what has been said earlier. While I love this CD to death, it is simply not a very good example of the unbridled energy this guy puts forth on stage. But don't misunderstand...get this disc, by all means--it is a keeper. The songs are genuine, heartfelt and infectious as all get-out. But do yourself the supreme favor of seeing him live in concert at your earliest opportunity and see how this young men lets himself cut loose on stage and inject his songs with enthusiasm and lust for life. He knocked us out, and I am reasonably sure he will you, too. (One of the high points of the evening, incidentally, was when O.A.R. invited Ari and Stephen onstage to perform a blistering version of The Band's "The Weight." A very memorable performance indeed.)

This CD hasn't left my CD player since I purchased it a few days after its release a few months ago. Boy am I glad I happened to catch a brief preview of it a month before its release on my XM radio while just scanning for a good song, I was hooked even then. Even my six year old daughter rocks to this sound and demands it whenever she gets in the car. Every, yes every song, is excellent! I'm no pro critic, but Ari Hest has created a great Rock n Roll album that has everything including a voice that is matched perfectly with great bass, lead guitars, and drums that all create a sound you don't want to stop listening to. This guy has a ton of talent and energy and will be huge because he works very hard and you can tell it all comes from his heart. Can't wait to catch him live! Big fan already!

This guy has a sound in the style of a Pete Yorn...very new...real music. Never heard of him? I hadn't either...but I took a chance after listening to the samples on this amazon page and I am really glad that I did...I see a future star here.

I highly recommend this cd to anyone. Ari Hest rocks!

The Future of Rock,
By B. Davidsen "the red demon" (lansing, michigan (busan, south korea)) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Someone to Tell (Audio CD)
Ari Hest is simply put the future of Rock and Roll. His lyrics are accessible to nearly everyone and the songs are so independent of one another that they stand out from one another. An, atop all this, he is genuine, sincere, and kind.
Most modern rock albums sound like the same beat and the same song with slight variations repeated twelve times on a record. Ari's songs are so unique from each other you can't confuse them. Upbeat songs like "Consistency" and "They're onto me" don't carry the same beat or rhythm, but still bring a speedy and balanced sound with an urgency or constant rhythm that tells the song as well as the lyrics do. Songs like "Strangers Again" and "When Everything Seems Wrong" slow down enough to show a smooth and sincere side of rock. While most songs have been road tested and some appear on his earlier independent albums, his newer songs still bring the same layered appeal of his older songs. "A Fond Farewell", "Not For Long", and "Someone To Tell" are creative, and, while they showcase Ari's voice and acoustic talents, they blend him into the band, which has created a fullness to his sound that solely acoustic performances of his sometimes lack. And, beyond the CD, Ari Hest is a hard-working artist, who is ALWAYS on tour! I've been in three cities in the last two years and still managed to see him everywhere. I've seen him in packed performance venues and at small clubs, but he has always brought the same subtle mix of confidence and experience. I can't put into words how much he tours, so please visit www.arihest.com to see if he plays a city near you. Buy this CD - it's awesome!

Beautiful record by a talented artist,
By Kea B (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews

"Someone To Tell" is a beautiful album by a very talented artist. Ari Hest does an amazing job in taking you on a roller coaster ride of emotions. From the up-tempo, guitar-driven "Consistency" to the sensitive, heart felt "Anne Marie" Ari doesn't disappoint. While "They're On to Me" "Fascinate You" "Aberdeen" and "Not For Long" are more on the pop side, Ari draws you in with his sensitive side through songs such as "Strangers Again" "Monsters" "When Everything Feels Wrong" and "Someone to Tell." Other songs include "Fond Farwell," a self-reflecting mastery, and "Holding On," a song that I'm sure many of us can relate to in our relationships. His meaningful and autobiographical lyrics are done justice only by his rich baritone voice, which can have you up and rocking out at one moment or on the verge of tears in the next. Although most of the songs on this album has previously been released on Ari's independent label, he does a great job in revamping and polishing up the songs for his major debut with Columbia. In the midst of the singer-songerwriter craze, it is easy to compare Ari to John Mayer and Jason Mraz; however, Ari is Ari and his music is unique to him. He delivers sensitivity with an edge. I think it would be safe to say this record is definitely worth your time and hard earned $$$. Try it out and I promise you won't regret it.

Ari's song writer singer talent combined with a voice that hooks you with it's honesty and passion - a real future star once people discover him. AWESOME in concert and like most great artists - better in person than on a CD - but this CD is always a fav of mine - as is this artist. I hope he is around a long time to develop his talent. Take a listen - I'm sure you will enjoy it. My fav song is Monsters.....but it's not generally the most popular on this CD.
