5.0 out of 5 stars Raw, passionate folk/rock songs..., September 4, 2000

I don't like putting music into catagories, but I really like this guy's style. First of all, he's authentic - sure, he's originally from New York or where ever and sings with a country/folk/bluesy twang, but when he talks about dusty roads, and hope in the faces of the down-and-outs, he means it - he's been there. His music talks about travelling the hard way, learning about the real world, and about people's dreams and fears. How many of us seeker/adventurers have the guts to get out there and do that, and how many of us could come away with these beautifully crafted songs?

I guess I should talk about the others artists who he could compare to: Well, maybe Dylan...Jakob Dylan (Wallflowers - but without the fortune or the name), Townes Van Zant, Lucinda Williams, Richard Buckner, Vic Chesnutt, Wilco and so on. I won't compare him to Dylan (Sr) but there are some moments on the album that make me think.

Great debut album, buy it for the song "If by chance we meet again" if nothing else. I happened upon it in a coffee shop mixed sampler that someone gave me. The rest of the sampler was throw away material, but this guy's music is NOT.

Luke

5.0 out of 5 stars This is my essential Fall album., August 28, 2006
This review is from: Somethin' In The Air (Audio CD)
This stunning album stirs my soul. Glad I was exposed to this record through WRNR in Annapolis back in 99, cannot imagine the years that have followed without it. This record goes with October and November like the World Series and football.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Rising of Singer/Songwriters, July 20, 2005
This review is from: Somethin' In The Air (Audio CD)
Although this LP is several years old, it holds a longevity that a lot of the music that plays on the radio today does not. Mike Younger is still rising in this business and I think that as long as he is writing songs, there are those of us who will always be listening. My favorite songs on this LP are 'If By Chance We Meet Again" and "Somethin In The Air" (Poetic Genius). If you have not heard his new record, it is worth a buy. Mike Younger has matured in his singing and playing, he is tougher and more determined than ever to do the music business his way. Keep writing and singing Mike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real music., November 16, 1999

Go see him live or buy this cd, this is real music that is as good as it gets.

He has squatted in NYC, played the streets down in New Orleans and it really comes through in his music.

Reminds me of Willis Alan Ramsey a bit. Hope he puts out more albums than Willis though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't get enough of Mike Younger, July 23, 2002

I first saw Mike Younger when he opened for a concert at Earth Day in Virginia. I had never heard of him until then and when he started to play, I literally stopped in my tracks to listen to him. Mike Younger is truly an artist and a talent to be recognized and appreciated. "Somethin in the Air" is one of those CDs that prompts the listener to play it over and over again and never tire of the beautiful poetry and music woven from his life experiences. My favorites on the CD are "Autumn Wind", "If by chance we meet again", "Franco's Lullaby", "Keep Comin Back" and of course, "Somethin in the Air". When Mike Younger is discovered by new fans, they hold on tight because they know this man and his music are honest to the core. BUY THIS CD and ENJOY.
