Product Description

The fifth label release from acclaimed composer and multi-instrumentalist, SOMETHIN''BOUT LOVE stands ready to introduce this multi-talented artist Brian Culbertson to a broad new audience while re-affirming the dedication of fans already in the know. As Culbertson's most accomplished and far-reaching work to date, the album finds a new R&B-fueled sound - one as soulful and touching as anything heard on today's NAC or Urban airwaves.

Amazon.com

Brian Culbertson has been working more and more with live musicians on his sessions, and it adds a new depth and stronger grooves to his floating keyboard sounds on Somethin' 'Bout Love. There are terrific guest spots by saxophonists Dave Koz and Steve Cole and organist Ricky Peterson, as well as some potent bass from Walter Tisdale. R&B singer Lori Perry increases the soul quotient on her song "Get'n Over You" as well as the concluding "I'm Gonna Miss You," a moving collaboration between Perry and Culbertson. The latter vies for top honors with the two versions of "The Secret Garden," one instrumental and the other a great feature for Donnell Spencer's voice. --Adam Rains

Brian Culbertson has the potential to go far, very far with his music. Mature beyond his bio-years, Brian has accomplishments on various musical levels. He plays several musical instruments besides his excellent work on the keyboards. He began piano at the age of 8 but within 4 years he had already mastered several other instruments. He is a composer plus a musical arranger.

The songs on this cd are magnifique. The opening title song "Something 'Bout Love" was co-written by Brian. This is a mellow composition with the emphasis on Brian's fine keyboard abilities. He plays keyboards, piano, trumpet, and trombone on this song. "Do You Really Love Me" was written by Brian and he plays keyboards and piano. "Get'n Over You" is a smooth R&B ballad written and performed by Lori Perry. She has a touch of Phyllis Hyman in her voice. There are two versions of "The Secret Garden" which was written by a collaberation of artists and originally introduced by the great Quincy Jones. Brian does these songs brilliantly in both versions as if they were made for him. Instrumentally he plays piano, keyboards, drum programming and synth bass. All of the remaining tracks are either compositons written exclusively by Brian or co-written by Brian. In most of the songs he plays multi-instruments. Accomplished guest musicians joining Brian are Paul Jackson Jr., Dave Koz, Ricky Peterson, and Michael White.

Brian Culbertson has a wonderful sense of musicianship well beyond his years. He can be mellow, funky, or soulful and very accomplished at each. As he continues to mature Brian's music has a rich depth that far surpasses expectations. Looking forward to hearing much, much more from this multi-talented musician.

Very rare these days...usually one or two songs, but Brian has put together a whole list, each one worth really listening to, you know, over and over.... This is smooth jazz at it's best!..... I did get hung up on #3, "A Secret Garden", a real nice tune, something to listen to, sitting with your 'significant other', while you stare out at the ocean (I live at the beach)...then there's #7, "It's Only You". Since I'm a bassplayer and have listened to Wayman Tisdale for quite a while, it's a real treat! Trust me, #7 is worth cranking up....and his bass solo is totally awesome (playing on top of the bass track he laid down)! This is one of those CDs you could never get tired of. I can't wait for his next project. I'm hoping Brian never looses his passion for music, keeps playing from 'the heart'. Thanks Brian. Don't ever loose 'it'.....

I absolutely love this CD. It's one of the best jazz albums I,ve heard in a long time. This is one of Mr. Culbertsons best if not his best CD ever.
Give a listen to the soulful Secret Garden(Both the instrumental and Vocal versions), the seductive Gettin Over You, and the funky Back In The Day. Brian hasn't sounded this good in a long time(His two previous CDs needed time to grow on me, I love them now).
However this album took my breath away upon first listen.
This is real smooth jazz. I highly recommend this CD.

I enjoy various jazz pianists. I have been trying to buy this particular cd for several weeks. Now, I know why. It is awesome! I have the previous cd "Secrets" and I was pleasantly surprised. Frankly, this one blew me out the water. I have listened to it over and over. "Somethin''Bout Love" is beautiful. "Secret Garden" instrumental and vocals by Howard Hewett are both spectacular. "Gettin'Over You" with vocals by Lori Petty is also very beautiful. "Escape" is an absolutely incredible instrumental piece. I am awed by the talent of this young man. I highly recommend the purchase of this cd. It seems to speak to each of the highs and lows we experience in the name of love. There is surely, somethin''bout love.

Can't wait to get my hands on this awesome cd by an upcoming SUPERSTAR in the world of smooth jazz. I have purchased his prior cds, but this is the best so far. Brian has got to be one of the smoothiest pianists I have ever heard. GREAD CD. ONE THAT NEED TO BE IN YOUR COLLECTION

I bought this CD about 2 weeks ago and have been playing it non stop since then. There is not one cut on this CD that I don't like. My favorite-"Secrets" both vocal and instrumental. The tribute to a lost friend in "I'm gonna Miss You" is very soulful. A great piece of work!

Iv`e always judged an artist not only by their musical talents but by their creativity in their arrangements and most importantly their music writing ability. Culbertson meets the above and more.Anyone who can articulate the piano, keyboards, trumpet, trombone as Brian can shows a talent to be reckoned with.Whatever you prefer to call it.....smooth jazz...light R&B....easy listening.....calling it anything but just plain good MUSIC would be doing the CD a grave injustice. So kick back, pour yourself a drink, and if only for an hour, the world is not so hectic after all.
