A masterpiece revisited!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Something Better Change (Audio CD)
After 20 years this LP is now FINALLY availible in it's entirity! (Most of it was on the "Bloodied" comp but different mixes.) Sounds like the Clash's first LP played at 78! It was 19 years ago when Government Issue vocalst recomended this album to me. He was RIGHT! It's one of the GREATEST early 80s hardcore albums ever along with the Germs' "(GI)", Dead Kennedy's "Fresh Fruit", GG Allin's "Always Was", Bad Religion's "How Can Hell Be Any Worse" & Bad Brains' "Rock For Light" (LP version).

One of the best punk albums to date!! I can't believe this has finally been reissued. 100% pure punk rock, no gimmicks and no cheesey love songs like those so-called "punk" bands today. The best and most important band ever from Canada and maybe North America!!! Kids if you are just getting into punk and Hardcore this is a MUST!!!!!

Something STILL Better Change.,

One of THE greatest punk albums ever made, one of the best records period. This original mix is SO superior to the mixes of these songs on Bloodied But Unbowed and Dawning Of a New Error CDs. Almost all songs could be considered "highlights". My personal faves are the Majestic "New Age", "The Enemy", the 2nd versions of "The Prisoner" and "Thirteen" (the single wasn't so great, not on this level anyways); "2+2","Woke Up Screaming" (again, an improvement on the 7" version);"Rich Bitch"...should I just list every song?!! New Age and 2+2, the best. For those interested in punk, it doesn't get any better than this folks; this is for those who prefer their punk music politically charged (forget Green Day, BLECCH!!); the only bands that dare to deserve mention to D.O.A. in their prime are The Avengers (whose self-titled CD on C.D. Presents is the only one worth getting (even if the White Noise E.P. songs on it are inferior to the original E.P.'s versions), Stiff Little Fingers (Nobody's Heroes period), and maybe Los Olvidados (not political, more for teenage angst). D.O.A. put out a couple great records after this--Hardcore '81 and War On 45, but this is their glory, their greatest hits, so to speak, and is simply amazing. Empowering music to fight this current New Age of Bush-era crap, from the war in Iraq to S.U.V's that all these damn rich breeders own, whatever, this is a perfect antidote to both society at large and the MISERABLE musical non-situation. You like punk, or powerful thrtee or four chord rock with INCREDIBLY forceful vocals (Joey S---head; that's his name, folks), this this album is for you. 6 stars. A punk masterpiece. THIS is "classic" rock in MY book!

kickass Canadian punk,

Probably one of the best hardcore punk bands to come out of Canada in the late 70's/80's period with other greats like the Subhumans (not the UK one), Neos, Stretchmarks, Dayglo Abortions, Forgotten Rebels etc.Their sound is killer, alot of mingling of UK influences (most notabley early Clash) with the hardcore punk sound of the day back then. With Joe... Keithley fronting them were also had quite the stage presence. definitely a must have if you dig old hardcore punk... you should also check out Toxic Reasons since they played a similiar style...

When I saw them play at Mabuhay Gardens in San Francisco in 1981 I knew this was a great punk band. I saw them again in Denver years later in a crappy little place, and they were still fantastic. In my mind, this tops the Sex Pistols and equals The Clash. I have the original vinyl, now you can get the original CD. We got to talk to these guys, they were just average joes who deeply understood the suffering created by obsolete governmental systems. They were angry, yes, but I didn't find a sadistic, ultraviolent kind of anger that you find with a lot of American punk bands. They just played, expressed their truth, and didn't seem to get caught up in it. Get it, you'll find D.O.A. to be one of the best bands of the late 70's/early 80's anti-system movement.
