5.0 out of 5 stars THIS album should be the one title INCREDIBLE!!!!
Okay - I'm not a big Mary Mary fan. In the whole time they've been out, they have about three songs that I like, and didn't RUN to the stores/itunes to buy even them. I don't know what happened on this recording - I don't know if they are under new management or working with new people or what - but this is the only album in my entire Gospel collection that I can sit...

I have purchased all of the previous CD's by one of my favorite groups Mary Mary. This CD is definitely a disappointment. It seems to lack the heart, soul, and conviction of their previous musical offerings. The songs all seem to mimic in some form, a popular secular song or artist. Instead of heartfelt songs of faith and encouragement, the tracks feel contrived and gimmicky. The two ladies are talented beyond measure, and have so much more to offer than this CD delivers. Change and growth are good, but I would caution the Mary's not to forget the sound and the message that made them such powerful and popular voices for God's love and comfort, and not to try so hard to imitate the secular artists of the day. They have a special gift given to them by God. This CD does not showcase their immense talent. It feels uninspired and disingenuous.

I am a true Mary Mary fan but this CD left me scratching my head. The only two songs that I truly like are It is Well and Walking. The CD leans heavily on "dance track" music and lacks the gospel feel of their other CDs. I will continue to purchase their music but I hope that the next CD is better than this. It pains me to even write this review becasue I love the music of Mary Mary .

1.0 out of 5 stars Hmmm...., April 27, 2011
This review is from: Something Big (Audio CD)
I'm at a loss for words. I normally love Mary Mary and was so excited to get this album. I had to choose between this one and Kirk Franklin and I quickly chose this one. Big mistake! Something is missing..it doesn't sound like them, it doesn't feel like them. I can't explain it. But I'm really disappointed. I hurts to write this but it's the truth. I can only think of two songs on that whole CD that I like.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS album should be the one title INCREDIBLE!!!!, April 4, 2011

Okay - I'm not a big Mary Mary fan. In the whole time they've been out, they have about three songs that I like, and didn't RUN to the stores/itunes to buy even them. I don't know what happened on this recording - I don't know if they are under new management or working with new people or what - but this is the only album in my entire Gospel collection that I can sit and listen to the WHOLE thing without having to push skip not one time, and I got everybody from Shirley to Richard Smallwood to Deitrick to Tye to all those different Winans groups to the Boys Choir of Harlem! There are only two songs that I don't absolutely love, and I can even sit through them comfortably because the rest of the album is sooo tight. Now - no - if you're looking for traditional praise and worship speak in tongues Gospel (which I also love and have plenty of in my collection), THIS IS NOT THE ALBUM FOR YOU!!! You will hate it. But if you like a mix of different flavors with your gospel music sometimes, you will love it. You got your funk with a lil country/honkytonk undertone on your opening tune, you got dance, you got urban/r&b, there's autotuned acapella, neo soul, rock, some slight tribal, and even had the nerve to have a drumline on one cut. It really is their best work yet so far to me, by far. My very favorite artists are Fred Hammond and Kim Burrell with members of the Winans clan as a close second, but my ablum with the most cuts on it that I like - 10 outta 12 and can tolerate the whole album nonstop - I gotta say it's Mary Mary Something Big!

1.0 out of 5 stars What's "Relevant" & "Hype" Versus What "Delivers", April 5, 2011
This review is from: Something Big (Audio CD)
After listening to clippets of Mary Mary's cd, I have decided not to purchase this cd.
In this season of my life when I'm wanting to grow closer and closer to the Lord and away from the life I use to live not so long ago apart from Christ (clubbing, partying, etc), I find myself with a hunger for pure Gospel music.

I understand we're in the 21st Century and a lot of people are gearing toward that which "sounds" good or 'tickles' their ears with the beats and 'inspirational' lyrics, but I'm hungry for PURE WORSHIP and music that ushers me into the VERY presence of the Lord.

After hearing songs like "I Give myself away" and "Nobody Greater", my perspective has changed. Mary Mary and other artist may sell cds but what matters most is the GOSPEL message of deliverance and setting captives free. I just want to be holy. Not holier than thou because if someone saw how my life was BC (before Christ) they'd be amazed that I'm still here.

Music has played and continues to play an important part of my life. I only wonder where the true GOSPEL is. the GOSPEL is the death, burial and resurrection of JESUS. I'm just hungry for something that most of these artist are not giving me. They provide the beats and the music but where is the substance. I can only speak for myself. In times like these, give me JESUS. NO hype, no "phat" beats, sub-par lyrics...NO MORE!

MINISTER to me! OUT with the entertainment! BRING OUT THE TRUE GOSPEL ministers.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lacks Real Substance, August 17, 2011
This review is from: Something Big (Audio CD)
CD has a few feel good songs but lacks real substance, continuity and growth as an artist. They are expanding their watered down message but not maturing as artists which does explain why the last couple of albums are so choppy/detached from one another and feel more experimental (let's try this) and less focused and spirit lead (God has us here in this season). I love Mary Mary but can't place their identity anymore which is so critical when you are trying to cross over. Praying they find their true selves again and know there is always a price to compromise.

I should have listened before I purchased this cd. I am a Mary Mary fan but this cd sounds like rock. The only song that I like is Walking. Sometimes artists change the sound but I dislike it so much that I can't even hear the words which I am sure is enlightening as all their songs are. Something Big is a Big disappointment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Blessed Album!, June 24, 2011

I absolutely give God the praise for this album. I appalaud Mary Mary's efforts in moving with The Holy Spirit and doing a new thing - all the while bringing Jesus His full inheritance. I am also glad to see how secure they are in their calling and not being moved by man's opinions. It is a great example for all of us who are also called to something similar. Again, I give God the praise and truly appreciate their ministry. This is another blessed project (as all of their albums have been - another success). May God continue to take them higher for the glory of His beautiful son Jesus! (Isaiah 40:3-5, Matthew 9:38-40!) 5 Stars all the way.

Mary Mary does it again. This album isn't exactly like what they typically create, but it is a great, uplifting album.

The sisters keep finding ways to inspire through music/songs without being preachy. Keep it up and take a listen you too may want to jump and buy the entire CD.
