Review

"Something Coming synthesizes the world's numerous spiritualities, with history, with the contest between the Light and the dark, with adventure, depth of character and suspense. It's a "must read" for people who love to explore philosophies and ideologies in totally absorbing fiction." --D. Gulick, Amazon reviewer

"Something Coming is a spell-binding journey across time, through inner space and back to a jarring reality. The characters are richly drawn and have your heart aching through their epic struggles and triumphs. J.M. DeBord spins a tale that seems to mirror our own unfolding world." --Dona McNeill, Amazon reviewer

"I keep coming back to this book! I love the way DeBord weaves ancient mysteries and captures the current global zeitgeist. The characters jump off the page and into your psyche. I loved this book and can't wait for J.M. DeBord's next offering." --Bim, Amazon reviewer

More About the Author

Little did I know what I was asking for when, as a 16-year-old with a dream, I prayed to grow up to be an author. Oh the trouble I could have saved myself by just continuing with computer science! But I can look back over the past 20+ years and say that getting to this point as a writer was worth it, though more difficult than I could have imagined as a teenager who looked at all the possibilities of what he could be and picked "author."

Since then I've published hundreds of newspaper articles and worked just about every angle of writing and media. On the side I worked for a decade to create my first novels: "Something Coming, a New Age Thriller," and "Something Coming Book Two: The Sacred Mountain," published in 2009-10. Some day a Book Three will be added to complete the story. The odyssey began in 1999 while reading a newspaper article in the NY Times about an excavation at Mt. Nemrut, Turkey. Next thing I know I'm scribbling ideas as fast as possible outlining a story about an Antichrist-like spirit beneath the mountain leading archaeological researchers to its discovery. But as I learned more about Nemrut - its history and purpose - and Second Coming prophecy, the more a story emerged that blurs the lines between New Age ideas and ancient beliefs.

500 pages later....

Then I finally figured out my place in the publishing world with my latest book, Dreams 1-2-3: Remember, Interpret, and Live Your Dreams, published by Hampton Roads. I poured into it as much of my twenty years of experience working with dreams as possible, and from the feedback I'd say I accomplished my goal of writing a book that anyone can use to understand their dreams and do something good with the knowledge.

I now have an agent, Lisa Hagan, who is a writer's dream come true, and a publicist Sara Sgarlat who is one of the best in book pr. She got me on Coast to Coast AM with George Noory back on Nov. 5, 2013 - what a thrill! Since then I've appeared on many radio programs spreading the news that you really can live your dreams if you first remember and understand them.

I will admit that I am a bit surprised at the talent of this Indie Author. The writing style of this author can be put on the list with most of the well established authors of our time.

The material appears to be very well researched and presented in a very "cerebral" story. It leaves you with many questions as to the future of mankind and how careful we should be in choosing the ones we follow.

My only negative on the book is the ending. It was very abrupt for me and I was not expecting it. It was like watching a television show and suddenly, 'To Be Continued', pops up on the screen. Of course, now I will have to decide if I want to know the ending by getting the next book.

I finished "Something Coming" and must say, "Well done!" I loved that bewitching character, Darianna. And that ending! I will not spoil it for readers. If I remember right , Mt. Nemrut and Antiochus (the main setting and character) were real figures from history. And those two Jewish gals descended from Judas Maccabee were very interesting. Antiochus wanting to be reincarnated as super king and turns out to be ... Well again, I won't spoil it.

The idea of a second coming is prominent in nearly all religions. The Christians believe that Christ is coming back to judge the world and Satan. He will bring in a period of one thousand years of peace and perfection. Christian believes there will be a seven-year period when all hell breaks lose, called the Tribulation. There will be severe judgment rained down on the earth. It is described vividly in the book of Revelation, the last book of the Bible. Satan will appear in fleshly form as the Antichrist, similar to how the author presents Antiochus in "Something Coming", except with an interesting twist so that we're not sure what he really is.

The idea of an archaeological dig is fascinating. Finding more than just archaeological artifacts makes it even more interesting. Finding something supernatural? The author peaked my interest and had my attention from start to finish. I love to read stories about the second coming and end times. I am a Christian, but of course the novel paints a much wider picture than just what one religion can offer. But it is fiction. The reader must remember that. I hope no one gets hung up on the facts, it is fiction, painted well

I can't wait to read the follow-up.

Again, well done.

"Something Coming" reminds me slightly of Frank Herbert's "Dune" series, but without the dense but made up mythology and religion. The author has a deep understanding of real time, place, culture and philosophy that might be daunting for the reader who journeys deeper into the book and series. However, the characterizations, descriptive prose and flow of events will steal the heart and test the spirit of the lucky reader who stays with it. This book is highly recommended for anyone who can imagine, read deeply and stay immersed in a complex and rich new world order.
