Biography

Steve Trudeau is the oldest member of the group, but his age brings knowledge and experience. He has been interested in Hip Hop since his pre-school years, which was right around the birth of hip hop give or take a year. The hip hop sound was mostly popular in New York, so access to releases was limited. At the time, all of hip hop was an underground movement. When he was able to, Steve acquired… Read more in Amazon's Sackcloth Fashion Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Aww, DANG! Why didn't I get this sooner!, January 24, 2000

This review is from: Something for Everyone to Hate (Audio CD)
The truth is that I love hip-hop; I just hate the cursing and moral bankruptcy of most of that secular stuff. I've gotten by listening to Will Smith, but for some reason I was curious as to what Christians had to offer. After a bit of searching, I eventually chose Sackcloth Fashion as my first foray into Christian hip-hop. After a few months, I picked up the CD. This is as dope as it gets, kids. Every track kills - but the one track which had the most effect on me was "Sibling Rivalry" - you MUST hear this track! The production! Don't get me started! Some secular artists could learn from these dudes - peep "Pulling A Fast One", "The Guest List" and especially "Rising Sons (World Beat Remix)" (that beat is sick and so is the bass) as examples to see why. These guys prove that hip-hop does NOT have to be dirty to be good (though Will Smith already proved that). However, these guys do something more - they address matters of the soul. BUY THIS CD!

I only have to say this: "Liquid Demon", Family Ties" and "Sibling Rivalry" are so disturbingly graphic and straight-to-the-point that one has to believe they passed through these experiences... And that's probably what happened since God work in many strange ways.

Keep throwing those rhimes In the name of the Divine!

5.0 out of 5 stars 6 stars, May 22, 2000
This review is from: Something for Everyone to Hate (Audio CD)
If i could give this album more than 5 stars i would. It is by far the best album i've purchased in a great while. I had heard several songs that aren't on the album and i thought they were dope, but i had been hearing such mixed feedback from others i wasn't sure what to think. I understand why the mixed feedback. People don't know how to deal with innovaters. Sackcloth is very original. The song concepts and the way they are written from a unique perspective. I found them to be very insightful. Now the fact that sackcloth is a "Christian" hip hop group is probably another reason i heard such mixed feed back. There is no doubt that they write from a biblical background when it comes to issues and a belief in God, but they are most certainly geared towards the general market which i think is a good thing. The production is even better than the lyricists. Sir Roc(I found out online that he is the driving force behind the production) has to be one of the most creative hip hop producers of all time. Seriously! I know it is sounds outragous, but i've been a head since day one and i'm in my early 30's. I know hip hop and its history. I am in great anticipation of Fashion Expo( a huge comp they are working on) and the next album. Sackcloth should be known as a hiphop trend setter in years to come!I'll be willing to drop the bones anytime i see there name on a project.
