5.0 out of 5 stars Aww, DANG! Why didn't I get this sooner!
The truth is that I love hip-hop; I just hate the cursing and moral bankruptcy of most of that secular stuff. I've gotten by listening to Will Smith, but for some reason I was curious as to what Christians had to offer. After a bit of searching, I eventually chose Sackcloth Fashion as my first foray into Christian hip-hop. After a few months, I picked up the CD...

these guys have got a lot of talent and i can see them going real far. but they are also young and have room to grow as a hip hop group. it is good to see my brothers and sisters in Christ tellin it like it is though

After a few months, I picked up the CD. This is as dope as it gets, kids. Every track kills - but the one track which had the most effect on me was "Sibling Rivalry" - you MUST hear this track! The production! Don't get me started! Some secular artists could learn from these dudes - peep "Pulling A Fast One", "The Guest List" and especially "Rising Sons (World Beat Remix)" (that beat is sick and so is the bass) as examples to see why. These guys prove that hip-hop does NOT have to be dirty to be good (though Will Smith already proved that). However, these guys do something more - they address matters of the soul. BUY THIS CD!

I only have to say this: "Liquid Demon", Family Ties" and "Sibling Rivalry" are so disturbingly graphic and straight-to-the-point that one has to believe they passed through these experiences... And that's probably what happened since God work in many strange ways.

Keep throwing those rhimes In the name of the Divine!

5.0 out of 5 stars 6 stars, May 22, 2000
This review is from: Something for Everyone to Hate (Audio CD)
If i could give this album more than 5 stars i would. It is by far the best album i've purchased in a great while. I had heard several songs that aren't on the album and i thought they were dope, but i had been hearing such mixed feedback from others i wasn't sure what to think. I understand why the mixed feedback. People don't know how to deal with innovaters. Sackcloth is very original. The song concepts and the way they are written from a unique perspective. I found them to be very insightful. Now the fact that sackcloth is a "Christian" hip hop group is probably another reason i heard such mixed feed back. There is no doubt that they write from a biblical background when it comes to issues and a belief in God, but they are most certainly geared towards the general market which i think is a good thing. The production is even better than the lyricists. Sir Roc(I found out online that he is the driving force behind the production) has to be one of the most creative hip hop producers of all time. Seriously! I know it is sounds outragous, but i've been a head since day one and i'm in my early 30's. I know hip hop and its history. I am in great anticipation of Fashion Expo( a huge comp they are working on) and the next album. Sackcloth should be known as a hiphop trend setter in years to come!I'll be willing to drop the bones anytime i see there name on a project.

At first listen, this album won't hit most people. Until you start to listen this album closely. The beats grow on you, and rhymes are alot more intelligent than what is out today. Like the BEP's (true hip-hop fans know who I am speaking of), Sackcloth has to grow on before you see the beauty of the music.

Many of the songs are a no-holds barred approach to seeing the issues facing the youth of America from a Christian veiwpoint. A warning to the faint-hearted, some of these songs are GRAPHIC!! Although by no means profane, many of these tracks will disturb alot of listeners, since these guys are often graphic when laying lyrics on issues.

Imagine if Eminem actually examined his own demons instead of glorifying them and claiming that he doesn't need to change. That's the idea behind "Liquid Demons", a track in which a bottle of liquor asserts itself as the ruler of an alcoholic, forcing him to abuse his family and destroy his life. The song is smack in the face to Slim Shady's infamous "Drug Song".

"Sibling Rivalry" is a song about a teen abortion from the fetus' veiwpoint. The track takes you from the decision for the abortion to the point the fetus is prematuerly delivered, and ultimately killed. How many groups would dare take this issue on in such a graphic manner. My favor has to be "Family Ties", where Sackcloth shows domestic abuse from the POV of both abuser and the abused.

This album may not hit you at first, but give at listen, and it is sure to rival whatever garbage the secular world is releasing.

5.0 out of 5 stars SUPERIOR!, April 5, 2000
This review is from: Something for Everyone to Hate (Audio CD)
This is the best hip hop group I've ever heard. They are mad unique, but aren't so far out that you can't vibe with them. One of the emcee's is amazing. The production is incredible. If you have slept on this joint, you need to wake up. For some folks it may take a minute for them to grow on you, but it will grow! For me i knew after the first five tracks that these dudes were strictly next level1

5.0 out of 5 stars That last review?, October 5, 2000

The sackcloth album is by far the most innovative hip hop album i've heard in years. The reason i'm posting is because i read that last review and i wanted to clarify some things. Dirt was never the main vocalist for sackcloth he has his own group known as "shadow of the locust", which is actually more of a family. Dirt is a solo artist. Dirt was never on any of sackcloth's old stuff. Sackcloth had one song off an underground e.p. that was a remix of the original version of Verbaleyes. That song was a "G" remix. Other than that they have never done "gangster!" p.s. i live in san diego where both dirt and sackcloth along with many others are from. Peace The last guy seemed to really enjoy the album, as do i. I just wanted to clear that up. Sackcloth has never been a gangster group. Dirt was never the vocalist for sackcloth just a guest on their first full length album "something for everyone to hate." The e.p. that came out before their album was called "we've only just begun", which featured some songs from the album and some that haven't been officially released. So, yeah it is a great album.

If you are a hiphop head you need to peep these kats. If you aren't really into rap but like anything that is innovative then you should check this out. The production is amazing! The only thing that bugged me was when the album ended i was fiending to see what else this group had to offer. I will be a die hard fan till the end. This Cd is a must have for people who just enjoy good music!

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll Love "Something for Everyone to Hate", August 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Something for Everyone to Hate (Audio CD)
No matter where you're from, what language you speak, or what music you listen to, this album is unique and diverse enough to grab the attention of any listener. Titled "Something for Everyone to Hate", this could also be known as "Something for Everyone to Love". Upon picking up this highly anticipated album, I soon came into contact with many others who'd done likewise. What I found interesting was that we all had different favorites and tracks to skip from the CD, but we shared the same overall verdict: This album is good. There is some really amazing music on here. It can't really be classified as hip-hop. This is just plain good music. It would be an unwise decision to let this album slip by you. It's definitely worth whatever you end up paying for it, even if there really is something on there for everyone to hate.

Sackcloth Fashion has come through with so much talent and nothing else can compare! They have been likened to the Beastie Boys, but, that dosen't even come close. Nothing is comparable to Sackcloth's "Something For Everyone To Hate". Can't wait for the next project!
