5.0 out of 5 stars Discovered Cathy Davey, July 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Something Ilk (Audio CD)
I discovered Cathy Davey through the movie Disappearance of Alice Creed. Movie is decent, song is awesome. Holy Moly is a great song they used in this movie, and it's an opener to a great album.

Wish I had found Cathy Davey sooner.

5.0 out of 5 stars What can I say.. unbelievably perfect., November 13, 2004
This review is from: Something Ilk (Audio CD)
I first heard Cathy Davey's voice when she guested on an Automata track. I thought it was very quirky and distinctive, and I had a feeling that she was going places. I bought Something Ilk on the strength of her Come Over EP, and what can I say, I am speechless. This is undoubtedly the best album I've heard all year, and I am a big music fan. Cathy is one in a million. It's VERY seldom I get this excited by an artist or an album.

She straddles the line between love and hate, sugar and spice effortlessly. On this album, she is unbelievably diverse. She does pop/ rock songs, indie songs, Kate Bush esque numbers, a jazzy number and stunningly beautiful, heartfelt ballads. Some of the songs are just too good for words to describe them adequately, particularly Save Button, Mine For Keeps, Cold Man's Nightmare, Holy Moly, Come Over, Clean and Neat and Hammerhead. It is such an atmospheric album. I've seen her live and she is excellent.

Expect Cathy to get very big soon, because this album is just superb... Buy it now, or miss out on one of the most talented and diverse artists around at the moment. It is effortlessly catchy and well written. Unbelievably good Five Stars, Miss this album at your peril......
