I heard parts of this album over the last two years and I always thought it was a rightful successor to JA. When I received it in the mail and poped it in my CD player it blew me away. This is one of the best albums ever recorded and does truly show who helped to create the atmospheric feel in JA and Deconstructions. As one reviewer stated that this is a "beautiful record" and I fully agree. Better than STRAYS and richer than any ferrel/pyro/janes album to date. I really hope something new comes out of the Polarbear's creative force. Thanks to eric and the guys of Polarbear!

Having had this cd for over a year (previous release through PB website) I can honestly say it STILL hasen't left my cd player. Just like the other reviewers said (and rightfully so) that Eric A. ws the true creative force behind Jane's Addiction. I have so much respect for him especially after he turned down Perry's offer to do a reunion tour. He stays true to his artistic vision therfore creating a BEAUTIFUL CD. They actually broke up a while ago but one can only hope (with the re-release of this cd) they get back together and tour. GREAT job ERIC keep it up!!!

i bought this album online from iuma in '99 and it has been in constant rotation in my playlist for the last 5 years. it is the best post-JA album i have heard, and after listening to this album i realized that eric avery was a much larger contributor to the JA's sound than i had ever thought before.

I work at a radio staion and randomly saw this in the new section. Knowing Eric Avery(of Jane' Addiction fame) was the mastermind I immediatly played the first track on my show and was wowed!! Needless to say I bought this CD the next day, about two weeks ago, and there hasn't been a day when I havent listened to it the whole way through. Key Tracks are Lick, Friday, Bodybag, and Zulu. Very original, very amazing, and if you like deconstruction, or just like good original music with great lyrics to begin with, try this out!

The reason why Jane's will never be good again,

Although there is an air of spaciness on the cd, it is clear who the master songwriter in Jane's Addiction was. Eric Avery proves song after song that he has what it takes to be a rock star. Body bag and Farm are my two favorites and are hit songs. i am looking forward to when i can hear it on the radio. Thanks Eric. don't ever stop creating!

I love this album...I'm agree with the other reviews that the most talented musician in Jane's Addiction is the most obscured,Eric Avery...
I'm playing this album every day since almost a year.If you can,try to look for the "Chewingum E.P." too,it's even most awesome!!! A strange thing:now Avery is playing for Alanis Morrisette(?!).

Where is the sonic massacre?,

This review is from: Why Something Instead of Nothing (Audio CD)
This proof by Eric Avery contains very good tracks...as Lick,Friday,Sharkeye,Farm,Zulu...But where are the typical heavy sounds of Deconstruction and Chewing gum E.P.?The charm of this kind of music was quiet notes before a sonic massacre...Where is John Curry?Where is Thomas Von Wendt? The previous E.P. was another stuff...ingenious...what this is not.
