Lorrie at her best,
This review is from: Something in Red (Audio CD)
From the opening ballad "Autumn's not that cold", right through to the closing ballad "Faithfully", this album is a winner. Her voice ranges from complete vulnerability to in-your-face attitude. "Something in Red" is a touching waltz that was a big hit, as was "Except for Monday". She also does a fantastic cover of the old classic "Tears on my pillow". This album is Lorrie at her best...highly recommended.

A typical eclectic mix from Lorrie,

To me, this album has always lived in the shadows of the one before (Leave a light on) and the one after (Watch me), which are my two favorite albums of Lorrie's. Nevertheless, there are many excellent songs on this collection too - it's not far behind the other two in its overall quality.
The album starts with the wonderful ballad Autumn's not that cold, which was surely considered for a possible single release. It wasn't but the next four songs here (We both walk, Something in red, Except for Monday, A picture of me without you - a cover of a George Jones classic) were all major country hits. You've probably heard some of them if you're thinking of buying this album now. All four have appeared on various Lorrie Morgan compilations although I don't think they have all appeared together anywhere except on this original album. After the four tracks released as singles, there's a fine cover of Tears on my pillow, originally recorded by Little Anthony and the Imperials who had a major American hit with it. Their version didn't chart (and may not have been released) in the UK, but Kylie Minogue eventually took the song into the UK top ten. During the seventies, reggae singer Johnny Nash topped the UK charts with a song titled Tears on my pillow, but that was a completely different song. Best woman wins, a duet with Dolly Parton, comes next. This track also appeared on Dolly's album, Eagle when she flies. It is a fun song about two women fighting over a man, although most of the singing is done by Dolly. Three more fine songs (In tears, Hand over your heart, Faithfully) complete an excellent album. This is a highly entertaining album from Lorrie - not quite her best, but well worth a listen.

This is Lorrie's best album. Every song is great. I even love the cover she does of Journey's "Faithfully." She adds her own emotions into that song and makes it truly her own.

Lorrie Has A Great Voice. I Like The Art Cover On This Album. "We Both Walk" Is A Great Song. She Does A Remake Of A George Jones Classic "A Picture Of Me Without You". The Title Track Is Also A Great Balled To Listen To. If You Like "Autum's Not That Cold" Buy This Album.

From top to bottom, her best effort. From "Tears on my pillow", to "Faithfully", to her trademark "Something in Red". Her sultry voice leaves you spellbound in "We both walk", a duet with Dolly Parton, an all-around winner. No filler needed!

As expected, the album is excellent. As are all purchases I have made through Amazon. I'm not much for writing reviews, so prefer not to.

Lorrie's Heyday,

This is a very good album. Lorrie sings all the stuff on here very well, including covers that aren't really in the country vein, Tears on My Pillow and Faithfully. Lorrie does ballads well [Autumn's Not That Cold and Something in Red] and imparts great zest and attitude into the uptempo stuff. The album is definitely a country one, but one that people who aren't primarily fans of that genre can enjoy. We Both Walk and Except for Monday are excellent songs that are also featured on greatest hits compilations. However, this album contains the excellent Best Woman Wins [dued with Dolly Parton] and Hand Over Your Heart and is worth keeping around just for them. Very good

This was the first album fom Lorrie Morgan, when a friend gave it to me as a christmas gift. I really didn't know anything about this performer, and i'm not a fan of country music, but was i surprised by this album! The titlesong 'Something in red' is wonderfull as also the rest of this album, worth listening to on a rainy day,i also encourage others to give this album as a gift,or for no reason at all,it's just a great album.from ALTEREGO in Tulsa OK |
