Book Description

June 30, 2009
For a woman with her future all mapped out, her life's about to go in a whole new direction. . .

Tuscaloosa, Alabama, may not be a glamorous place, but for Journey Cash, the small Southern town has always been enough. She has a loving fiancée, a great family, and she even occasionally brings the house down at church with her beautiful, thunderous singing voice. Problem is, Journey finds herself wondering if all those years as an obedient preacher's daughter have kept her from living a life she is really meant to live.

When Dame, one of Journey's former students, comes back to town after striking it big as a rap star, Journey gets a taste of the fast-lane life that has passed her by. Dame is exciting, unpredictable and sexy. He is also ten years Journey's junior. But no matter. Journey--newly inspired--runs from everything that is idyllic and stable in her world into the arms of Dame.

As Journey's new relationship and growing public persona face obstacles she never, ever expected, she comes to terms with everything and everyone she left behind. Something She Can Feel takes one woman on the ride of her life and asks what happens when you trade in a life that seems perfect to simply feel one thing that's real.

5.0 out of 5 stars Are you Satisfied?, July 8, 2009

This review is from: Something She Can Feel (Paperback)
In Grace Octavia's SOMETHING SHE CAN FEEL, Journey DeLong seems to live the perfect life. She is a teacher at her former high school in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She grew up singing in the church as the preacher's child and she has a melodic voice. Her loving husband, Evan, gave her the house and car of her dreams on their wedding day. They met when they were in the third grade and have been together ever since and 25 years later they got married. Journey made him wait that long, probably because she was not sure if this was the life she wanted to live. Looking into her life, it seems perfect but something is missing. Journey quickly finds that out when her former student, turned multi-million dollar rapper, Dame, returns to his home town of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Not sure of this strong attraction to Dame, Journey is all the more confused. And it does not help to know that Dame has had a crush on her since he was in her class. 10 years her junior, Dame steps up and shows Journey there is more to life than the church you grew up in and the man you have been with forever, and the small town in Alabama. So many events happen that are our of the norm for Journey and have her questioning if she was really living.? Journey has to decide if she is satisfied with her life.

Octavia gives us a wonderful story, yet again. Even with the story being told just by the main character, you can relate to the sub-characters. You still get a feeling that you know what they are thinking. She was able to create sub-stories, without taking away from the main plot. Octavia allows us to go on this roller coaster ride with Journey. You get so caught up, you are not sure what is the right thing for her to do. This is a relatable life story. Everyone might not be happy with just the typical things of life. Some may want to live out their dreams and be free. SOMETHING SHE CAN FEEL was entertaining from the start. I enjoyed this one and cannot wait to see what Grace Octavia brings next.

4.0 out of 5 stars SELF DISCOVERY!, August 24, 2009
This review is from: Something She Can Feel (Paperback)
This novel starts off with a lot of mystery with Journey Cash. She's married, a school teacher and a preacher's daughter. But Journey's wants to be more than a married preacher's daughter who happens to be a school teacher in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Her husband gives her any and everything her heart can desire, but it still isn't enough to make her happy. When Dame, one of her former students comes into town Journey starts to get in a lot of trouble. What starts off an innocent dinner turns into something much much more.

This is one of those stories that after you've finished it you find yourself asking Am I really happy with my life or am I just living?

SSCF definitely as its slow parts but the good parts are really GOOD. You can't help but finish it to see what decisions Journey end up making.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Evolution - An Unforgettable Story!, July 23, 2009
This review is from: Something She Can Feel (Paperback)
Ms. Octavia delivers a engaging, realistic look at the evolution of a black woman in the south. Journey comes from an affluent family with Pastor Jethro Cash at the helm. Jouney, a music teacher at the local HS encounters life thru her students and slowly comes out of her box of expectations and shertered enviroment as she craves for more and she gets it.

Ms. Octavia does a wonderful job of blending the characters, Evan, Billie, Clyde, Dame, the Cash family the school children all blend toghther to make a story that has the deep flavor of the south, church and black family life all mixed into one 421 page book. I could not put this book down and I simply did not want this story to end. "Something" is definitely one of the top ten books of 2009. I cannot begin to explain how reading about Journey's Journey thru her own life and her obtaining that 'something' turns out to be herself. This book is tastefully written and has a wonderful view of the black church and the black woman. I am passing this book onto a few more women who need to feel...
