A Wonderful Remake...Better Than The Original!,
By Jamie Marks (Cary, NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Something Stupid (Audio CD)
There are few remakes that outdo the original. Geri Halliwell's cover of "It's Raining Men" was an example. Robbie Williams and Nicole Kidman's remake of the classic Sinatra song, "Something Stupid", is absolutely astonishing. Made to have a more modern sound, but still containing the quality of the original, the song is a beautiful and romantic love song that I can't get enough of. Williams shines as usual, and Kidman (who proved she could sing in 2001's "Moulin Rouge") blows me away every time I hear it. "Something Stupid" is a terrific song!

Something Stupendous,

I stumbled across the video for this song (which is a terrific bonus feature on this disc) on VH1 while channel-surfing one day. I was immediately enthralled with it. Robbie and especially Nicole are thoroughly sweet and charming in their interpretation of the old Sinatra classic. Highly recommended for fans of Robbie, Nicole and/or mellow, adorably retro music.

You will LOVE IT,

I am so happy with this CD, not only is this a great and catchy version of a classic hit done by great vocals (Nicole Kidman has a singing career is she wants it, that is the most amazing thing about it.) but it also has a video which as far as I know can only be played on a computer. If you loved Moulin Rouge, it is imperative that you get this too -- even if you didn't like Moulin -- this is a must have item. It's a wildly romantic song, less than 3 minutes, with a catchy beat. This song also went to number 1 in the UK. You won't be disappointed.

Kidman Hits Grooviest Keys,
By Doug Acosta (Miami Beach, FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Something Stupid (Audio CD)
Not since Gwyneth teamed up with Huey Lewis on the amazing rendition of Smokey Robinson's "Cruisin' " (DUETS) have I been so allured by a movie star's vocal ability and video acting (with the exception of Kidman's own Oscar-calibar job in MOULIN ROUGE).The "Somethin' Stupid" video is an imperative watch (if you can catch it), and the import should be snagged ASAP! Kidman has never been so seductive on music television (VH-1 or the MTVs). She and Robbie Williams enthusiastically breathe modern and respectful life into this grooviest Frank and Nancy Sinatra hit of yesteryear.

Cute & Charming,

This is a fantastic single! The song has a nice, airy swing sound, at once being romantic and a bit silly at the same time. I'm a big Robbie Williams fan, and Nicole Kidman is a great foil to him. While the other songs, particularly Eternity, are fantastic as well, I would highly recommend buying the CD "Swing When You are Winning" instead of this single. It contains the marquee song as well as many other great Rat Pack covers by Robbie Williams, such as Mack the Knife.

Not What I'd Call Stupid.,
By Josh Andrews (El Paso, TX USA) - See all my reviews

Robbie Williams and Nicole Kidman did an excellent job on "Somethin' Stupid" which is the cover of the original duet by Frank Sinatra and Nancy Sinatra. Robbie and Nicole make this love song true to what it should be - The original version sounds more depressing to hear, and like someone mentioned, as if they didn't wanna be in the studio. This wasn't the only time, however, Robbie has borrowed from the Sinatras. Robbie Williams' hit "Millennium" borrowed heavily from Nancy Sinatra's "You Only Live Twice" - they say Robbie has a bit of James Bond in him.. Nancy's song was the theme song to one of the James Bond movies.. maybe this means something! Anyway, great job for Nicole and Robbie - I think Nicole should start singing, honestly. She has a real talent for it.

Buy it for the video, keep it for the rest of the album,

I've always liked "Something Stupid", but there was always that sort of creepy dynamic to it with the Sinatra's version. I mean, here was this father/daughter duo singing a song about a charmingly disfunctional romantic relationship. This version is as musically pleasing as the original, with the bonus of the video which is pure fun: 60's high fashion collides with 90's sexual mores. I saw this is a bar and had to run out and buy the import - it was well worth it.

I love Sinatra, but I don't like his version of this song. It's strange. And both him and Nancy sound like they really don't want to be in that studio. Just listen to the song. It's almost depressing to hear them. This video is excellent. The actual CD is okay. If you don't want the video then I recommend not buying this, but Swing When You're Winning instead. Another good Robbie/Sinatra buy is the Mr. Bojangles single. Amazon says that it's not out until Sep 10 but I bought it at Tower Records about a month ago. (Check the site, it was a better price) But anyway, back to Somethin' Stupid. It is an excellent single, if you don't feel like paying [$$$] for the entire Swing While You're Winning album I definitely recommend buying this. Or even better buy the Live at the Albert DVD it also has the video on it and it has all of these songs plus many more. It's only [$$$] more than this single for much much more material.

Something Stupid,
This review is from: Something Stupid (Audio CD)
I didn't even know who Robbie Williams was before this. And I don't know him very well now. But I do know that Nicole Kidman is the BEST SINGER EVER!!!! I first heard her in Moulin Rouge and since then I've been hooked. I was looking up her an KaZaA and I found this song. It is soooo good they sound good together. They should make another.

nicole kidman is absolutely astounding. she surprised me in Moulin Rouge. Her voice is soft and carries very nice emotion for the lyrics she sings. she is not only a good actress, but a good singer as well...she and ribbie did a really great job by giving "something stupid" a modern and more playful interpretation.
