I enjoyed this sequel to "Something Most Deadly". I really enjoy the characters that Ann has created -- from Madeline, her best friend; to the police Detective "Westy"; the butler, William; Sam, the barn manager; Reggie, who has been at Springhill forever; Dylan, head groom; and of course Brian Canaday and his daughter Olivia. I love the characters together and how they pull together to run the estate and keep Jane safe. It was an enjoyable read to continue learning more about all of them.

The one "con" I have, is that I find the author a bit "wordy" (in this book and also "Something Most Deadly"). I feel like the author took a writing class where they spent a lot of time describing things in minute detail. I would just skip over whole pages because I wanted the mystery to keep unfolding, and I didn't really care about all the details of someone's dress.

And being a dressage person, I would have loved to continue more of the horse details in the book. But the story is moving away from the stable.

It was a very good book, and I would recommend.

Ann Self fulfills the promise of SOMETHING MOST DEADLY with the sequel, SOMETHING VERY GHOSTLY. The story takes up right where the first one left off and the tension doesn't falter. Jane is haunted by the ghost of her former employer while trying to assume the stewardship of the horse farm and its additions.
She and Brian are working to find themselves in a new relationship that is based on love and trust while moving toward each other across all the lines of class and privilage.
Jane must also forge new working relationships with former buddies and comrades as she becomes 'the boss.' This work is never easy and becomes much more difficult as it becomes obvious someone is determined to kill her.
This one will keep the pages turning or you thumb popping to following the swift action.
Nash Black, author of SANDPRINTS OF DEATH.

I thought the book was a great mystery and will read more of this author. Sometimes, though, the problem with mysteries is that there is too much wordage used in order to make it long enough to sell. I would rather have it get to the point earlier without all the wordiness.

An amazing sequel to "Something Most Deadly". The group from Springhill returns, minus one. There are many surprises along the way! It incorporated many historical elements, which were all meticulously researched. Just as the first book did, it kept my heart pounding until I closed the back cover, and left me hungry for Ann Self's next novel.
I recommend this book to everyone that love a good mystery, although I do suggest reading "something Most Deadly" prior to reading this.

P.S. Hurry up and get the next book out Amazon!
