Lee Ann Womack took her time with this project. After the huge success of her past album I HOPE YOU DANCE, there were high expectations, the bar was raised high. In turn we have SOMETHING WORTH LEAVING BEHIND, a collection of mature songs that make you think about life. Fans of her country material may be disappointed with this release, as there is not much country to be found here. We have some rock, pop, R&B, and more, but its still her wonderful voice. The album opens with its first single, the title track, a song about wanting to be remembered after we pass away. In a way it tries to emulate "I Hope You Dance" the song, but its special for its own reason. The second single is the ballad "Forever Everyday", another country song that should do well on radio. "He'll Be Back" hails back to Patsy Cline days, a traditional country number that Lee Ann handles and performs extremely well. The subject matter of the lyrics on this album is very mature, and thought provoking. She handles the matters of heart on most of the songs. "Surrender" is a highlight, an uptempo number about giving in. "You Should've Lied" could do well at country radio as well, a tender ballad that is so heartbreakingly real and vivid, she sounds excellent. Her vocals are top notch on this album. "When You Gonna Run To Me" sounds like classic 60's soul, while "I Need You" is an uptempo rocker. "I Saw Your Light" and "Talk To Me" are two other ballad highlights. "Blame It On Me" is another good country ballad, about accepting blame for a failed relationship. "Closing This Memory Down" is a beautiful ballad as well. However there was really no need for a pop version of the title track, the original is just fine. Overall if you can open your mind and enjoy other kinds of music, I think you will be pleasantly surprised with what Lee Ann has LEFT BEHIND.

The very first time I played this CD I listen to it at a very moderate volume and thought,"All the cuts sounded the same."
Subesequently after many listening sessions I totally retract my original statement.After her last spectacular release;I Hope You Dance;I felt it would be a impossible act to follow. Once again I was way off base.Some of the melodies sounded very fimilar at the beginning of some of the cuts,but they immediately flowed into new material.
When You Gonna Run To Me and Surrender,were teriffic.When I heard;Should've Lied; it absolutely grabbed my sole, it was so powerful.This women is a genuine super star!
Don't pass this new release up, it's a winner.

After hearing the amazing song, Something Worth Leaving Behind, I had to get this CD. I must have listened to the song 30 times, and I still love it. Here's a brief review of each song.

1. Something Worth Leaving Behind ~ Every person that watches CMT or is a fan of Lee Ann Womack has heard this. It's a very poetic song, the lyrics are very amazing, just like Lee Ann's voice. The video for this is pretty good too.

2. I Saw Your Light ~ People say this song is weak, but I don't think it is. Maybe her voice is very soft and quiet, but it works for this song. The lyrics are amazing, it explains everything I want to feel about a person in my life.

3. When You Gonna Run To Me ~ The chorus in this song is great, her voice is awesome. I just am not too crazy about the first verse, but other than that, I like it a lot.

4. Talk To Me ~ This song is really good, too. I think a lot of people can relate to it and she sings it really well.

5. Forever Everyday ~ I love this song. If you're a parent, I know you'll love it. Listening to it makes me want to have children. It's a really amazing song.

6. Orphan Train ~ This song really shows Lee Ann's talent. It's very upbeat and fast, really powerful.

7. I Need You ~ This is another song that shows Lee Ann's talent. I love the lyrics, they're really fun and powerful.

8. You Should've Lied ~ This song is excellent, too. The lyrics are great. It shows that not only can Lee Ann sing high, but low as well.

9. He'll Be Back ~ I don't like this song. It's too country for me. She sings it well and everything, but it's too traditional country for me.

10. Surrender ~ When you hear this song, you know it's gonna be a hit. The song is so great, and it's so visual, you can just picture everything.

11. Blame It On Me ~ This is another great song by Lee Ann. It reminds me of some of her other ones, though. But her voice is beautiful singing it, so I still love it.

12. Closing This Memory Down ~ I like this song a lot, but it could be better. There are a couple parts in the song where she talks, and I don't like it when there's talking in songs. But otherwise, it's a wonderful song.

13. Something Worth Leaving Behind ~ This is a different version of the hit, and I like this a lot. I think the first one's a little better, but I like that Lee Ann has a choir singing with her in the song, which makes it really good.

Go out and buy this CD. You'll want to listen to it over and over. I've listened to it countless times and I have yet to get tired of it.
