5.0 out of 5 stars Cliff Never Let's You Down!!, January 29, 2005

As the most constant reviewer of Cliff Richard recordings on Amazon I felt I should tackle this one as well. Just as I felt about his 1998 CD... Real As I wanna Be, I'm blown away by Cliff's never ending desire to keep current! He pulls it off everytime. I don't know of ANY other pop/rock star from the 1950's that still records current sounding music, If any new recordings at all. Cliff's voice is more powerful than ever at the tender age of 64!! One of the greatest things about cliff is he surrounds himself with great writers and players that let him shine and stay fresh and new. At his age most performers play or sing music from the generation they came from and sound dated because of it. Cliff could have sung nothing but his 1950's or 1960's hits 20 years ago!! He never rested on his past at all and I feel he never will. Any new CD will be worth buying including this one at any price. Stand out tracks for me are the following.

1)HOW DID SHE GET HERE
Such a moving song about leaving a love behind but still can't get it off your mind.
2)CANNOT GIVE YOU MY LOVE
Written by the great Barry Gibb, recorded in his studio and also sang back up vocals.
3)FOR LIFE
A great love song to play to that special someone and have a cry, a happy sort of cry!
4)FAITHFUL ONE
One of Cliff's best christian tracks since the 1982 Lp, Now You See Me... Now You Don't.
5)FIELD OF LOVE
Did not like this one at first but give it a listen a few times and it will grow on you. A very cool backbeat!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cliff Keeps Getting Better, December 9, 2004

Cliff Richard once again proves that he is one of the top male vocalists in the world. Glad to see "real" instruments--as opposed to the techno stuff--has been utilized by his Nashville producers. His driving, country/rock vocals are his strength on this album with cuts "Thousand Miles to Go," "Sometimes Love," and "What Car," but slower cuts "Simplicity," "I Cannot Give You My Love," and "Faithful One are outstanding. Cliff's record company, however, does him a disservice. "Something's Going On," the first single of the CD, is perhaps the weakest cut. Listening to this song does nothing to encourage non-die-hard-Cliff fans to purchase the CD. There is no reason why "Thousand Miles to Go" couldn't compete on both the country and pop charts in America. Perhaps the enormous success in the States that Cliff so richly deserves has been a marketing failure. This fan certainly thinks so!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cliff Keeps On Going!, June 10, 2005

Cliff Richard is into his fifth decade now as a performer and to hear this album, you would imagine that even Mr. Richard is surprised. It is a true masterpiece with (13) songs that are all vibrant and strong. Usually acts this old lose their appeal or keep on coming and Cliff Richard delivers a rich mix of songs. "Something's Goin' On" is a worthy single in a world that ignores singles. If you can get the single, the B-Side is a wonderful ditty called, "How Many Sleeps". It's just nice to hear an album that is generous in mood, variety and perfect in quality for the modern listener. This album is a keeper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cliff Richard, again a winner, December 4, 2004
This review is from: Something's Goin on (Audio CD)
Cliff Richard broke the mold and came to America for his best album ever! Recorded in Nashville and Miami at the Gibb recording studio, with all the polish and professionalism that implies, Something's Going On is a diverse set of thirteen new songs, country in style if not always in treatment, that exudes absolute confidence. From the opening rocker, "Thousand Miles To Go", through to the quietly devotional "Faithful One", this is the sound of a mature performer at ease with himself and his music. (Except, perhaps, for the slightly disturbing story of wrecking his dad's '68 Camero on "What Car.") His beautiful rendition of "For Life" is close in quality to "Miss You Night" if not even better and I predict it will become a Cliff classic. Line up ladies, Cliff is sounding better than ever!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Evergreen Cliff, July 3, 2005

What can one say that has not already been said by the previous reviewers. A very well balanced album with tunes that grow and grow on one. You can listen to this album over and over and not get tired of the tunes that are sung as only Cliff can do. I must agree with the reviewer that said that Cliff was not marketed properly in the States. He is popular all over the world and has had a string of number one hits in just about every country except the USA. There are a number of tracks on this album that could easily be released as singles and would all become hits. Cliff has really pulled out all the stops in what is by far the best album he has done since "Me and my Shadows" in the sixties. The studio backing group, mostly from Nashville makes the difference and Cliff performs a lot better when recording with real musicians. This album is a must even for those who are not true Cliff fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, October 16, 2005

I recently "stumbled" onto Cliff Richard again (was a fan in the 80s), not realizing what an icon he's been/still is everywhere in the world, except the US! I've since been buying everything I can get my hands on, including this, his latest CD. At first I was nostalgic for the old stuff (Devil Woman, We Don't Talk Anymore, etc.), then I really gave this one a listen. Each time I play this CD (which is everyday in the car), I have a new favorite..."I Will Not Be a Mistake," "Simplicity," "I Cannot Give You My Love," "The Day That I Stop Loving You," "I Don't Wanna Lose You." "What Car" is a blast, as is "Thousand Miles to Go"! I agree with one reviewer that Cliff isn't being marketed properly, if at all, here in the US. He could easily be in the Top 40, Country, and even Smooth Jazz markets with the mix of songs on this CD! I'm just thankful Amazon is selling it!

5.0 out of 5 stars I Don't Wanna Lose You, December 16, 2004
This review is from: Something's Goin on (Audio CD)
If you have ever suffered the broken heart of a romantic relationship coming to an end---the feelings of despair, helplessness, and hopelessness, then be careful when you listen to the next to last track on this album.

In "I Don't Wanna Lose You", Cliff sobs all the way through, and, if you have ever had such an experience yourself, as you listen to it, so will you.

First let me say that this is a good album...not Cliff's best but certainly worthy of honorable mention. Some of the song choices are wierd....."How did she get here" is a stock country rock song with just a smattering of profanity .....O.K. there's a 'damn' but listen to it and tell me that he didn't leave out a ' hell' in there somehwere...as in how the hell did she get here...
Contrast that with "Faithful One" which is a wonderful worship song.
So what's my beef?
For as little as this record was promoted....if you're gonna record in Nashville and do mainly stock Nashville/ Americana songs (What Car? is an inspired choice by the way..!)....why not promote it in the US? there was a missed opportunity if ever there was one. Secondly if you are going to enlist producers such as Tommy Sims and Michael Omartian, why not do a contemporary Christian pop/worship album and then promote it in the gospel market. Cliff sings better than most of the artists out there and with songwriters like his fave Chris Eaton still around - this could have been a killer sounding disc with MEANING!
Having said all that... there is plenty here to like and Cliff on an off day is better than most people trying to reach a peak.

5.0 out of 5 stars 100% Cliff!, January 11, 2009

This review is from: Something's Goin on (Audio CD)
I must admit that I'm a bit stuck in the past, partial to old Cliff Richard songs. If I hadn't heard him sing some of the songs in his concert DVDs - the rocking "What Car" and "Thousand Miles To Go" and the hauntingly beautiful "I Cannot Give You My Love" and "For Life" - I wouldn't have been enticed to buy this CD despite the rave reviews I'd read. But after listening to the entire CD, I'm proud of what Cliff has done to stay on top in this highly competitive field. Indeed he's as "current as today's newspapers," as the announcer in his Time Machine concert declared and is the ultimate pop star, his 100% effort very much reflected in his every recording.
