4.0 out of 5 stars Agnostic Front - 'Something's Gotta Give' (Epitaph)
I'm giving this CD a four star rating because for a live effort from this long-running New York City-style thrashcore/punk band,it's darn good.In other words,it's above average for WHAT it is.I did get to see Agnostic Front on this very tour,in fact I believe the setlist ran pretty much the same as this disc's track listing.Only downside was,EVEN the live performance ran...

2.0 out of 5 stars eh. . .
I suppose with their legions of pissed off fans who love this album they're doing something right . . . however I can't figure out what it is. The lyrics are trite and screamed sans melody. the music, though short, fast, and obnoxious (which I usually enjoy), stagnates, and by the end of the first minute of each tune has said everything it is going to. 5.0 out of 5 stars NYHC like it should be, September 26, 1999
By A Customer
Ok here's the deal. Agnostic Front IS hardcore. Not to sound closed-minded, but if you don't like Agnostic Front, you don't like hardcore. When your guitarist is known as the Godfather of Hardcore, how else can you explain it. So yeah, Something's Gotta Give is (in my humble opinion) probably one of the top 3 hardcore albums ever. And still kickin it after an amazing number of years. They deserve your respect and your money dammit. And if anyone thinks they sold out for playing Warped Tour, they just don't get it at all and never will (which also goes for Dropkick Murphys). So get this album and all their other stuff and if you don't like it i think maybe NSync is coming out with something soon for ya.

To all those reading this, I would suggest the Cro-Mags Age of Quarrel/ Best wishes and to save your money on this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Agnostic Front Returns!, July 16, 1998
By
dddelaney@worldnet.att.net (Virginia Beach, Virginia USA) - See all my reviews
After a five year hiatus,Agnostic Front returns with one of the best "punk rock" albums of the year. These guys aren't out to please the mall rat crowd. If you dig their stuff from the '80's you will be loving this one.True lyrics and stinging riffs from the original line-up make up the hardest offering from Epitaph records ever, period. If you like your rock punk, and you like your punk rock then give this one a shot. Most of you already know what's up,but if you are looking for the real deal buy this NOW.

4.0 out of 5 stars sounds more like early AF from the 80's!, January 19, 2012

weird this is 1998 agnostic front after one voice this should have been harder and heavier hardcore sound but they went back to thier punk roots and only with this cd did they do it right, simply punk hardcore tune that kick your teeth in and cause old schoolers to get up of their a** and dive back in the pit and show these kid how it's done!
this is great old school hardcore singalong choruses and punk rock vibes threw the tunes.going back in every way rodger, vinnie, rob, jimmy(a early AF drummer from pre recorded AF history.almost every song is a classic with no weak tracks unlike dead yuppies cd and riot.upstart cd those blew(i hated them from the first listen, only AF cds i hated too!)but somethings gotta give probly should have been recorded between victim and cause for alarm before adding the metal to their sound.it has that early period punk, early career cds feels to it(first couple albums were the band developes their sound in the early days before the big record deal.)buy it you'll not be dissapointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm not a skin head, but AF sure does kick!!!, April 2, 2002
This review is from: Something's Gotta Give (Audio CD)
This is how all Agnostic Front records should be. Fast, hard, and more importantly: Not sound like they were recorded in a garage with a $2 recording system. Despite what all the skin heads say, I think Agnostic Front coming to Epitaph was the wisest career choice they ever made. I mean listen to the sound quality of some of their older albums. Not to mention if they hadn't of came to Epitaph, then I wouldn't know about them and probably wouldn't be looking into various non-Epitaph hardcore bands.

I currently have 4 Agnostic Front releases: their 3 epitaph ones and Raw Unleashed. This is definitely the best one I own. I had originally thought that Dead Yuppies was the best. But then I head sound clips to the digitally enhanced "One Voice" and was blown away. Now, I have this CD and it is way better than "Dead Yuppies" as well. Also, something else that shocked and impressed me about this album is how NOT repetitive it is. I had the idea that AF = totally repetitive. However, that isn't true at all with this album!!! This is honestly no more repetitive than a Vision album is.

The song "Gotta Go" really stands out. I wouldn't necessarily say that it's the best but it is certainly one of them. It's amazing that hardcore band Agnostic Front can create a pure punk song and still sound awesome! Another song that really stands out is "Pauly The Dog". My mouth dropped to the floor when I heard this song. Every time I hear it I always have to make sure that it is really Agnostic Front I am listening to and not a NOFX song! It is an acoustic song with no redeeming lyrics. However, it's still quite funny. It is about how he has a dog who always drinks up all his beer. Pretty NOFX sounding huh? However, the rest of the songs are clearly hardcore songs. Other great songs include: "Bloodsucker", "Something's Gotta Give", "The Blame", and "Before My Eyes".

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard-freakin'-CORE., September 5, 2000
ARRRRRR!! SO glad my boys haven't gone soft over the decades. But I am disturbed at how fast those decades have passed-- just yesterday Pop was screaming at little 16-year-old Jenny to turn down "Cause For Alarm", & now I can buy AF over the internet. And they STILL make me wanna go punch holes in walls and cheerleaders' faces!! ARRRRRR!! Especially when doing my taxes!! This album is the heaviest yet, though sometimes that old-fashioned speediness still comes through. The other reviews are right about "Gotta Go" and "Crucified" being the stand-out tracks here. Roger's definitely 'singing' from a deeper place in his intestines than he used to (wonder what happened to him in prison anyway!), sounding more threatening than ever. And the piledriver guitars are just merciless. They've still got it, which makes a hometown girl proud! Anyone complaining that hardcore is tiresome because they can't understand the lyrics just doesn't appreciate this level of power, & never will. If it's in your blood, you'll know. Now go buy this-- crank it on your car stereo, then go run over something expensive.

4.0 out of 5 stars They've added variety while staying true to their HC roots, June 6, 2000
By
Hater of the Human Race (Under a Serpent Sun in Cincinnati, Ohio) - See all my reviews
When Agnostic Front came out with this album it seemed to get alot of bad reviews in the underground hardcore scene. Sure every song on "Something's Gotta Give" isn't fast and aggressive like albums such as "One Truth". AF has added a much needed variety to their sound. This album mixes their classic NYHC sound with an early 80's style punk sound. The main lyrical topics are unity and friendships gone bad, which are both very popular subjects in the scene, but somehow Agnostic Front keeps it interesting. They also show a suprising sense of humor in "Pauly the Dog". I think Roger's vocals might sound better than they ever have on this album. My favorite tracks are probably "Believe" and "No Fear". Once again Agnostic Front has created a solid album.
