two of the legends of the folk scene,
This review is from: Sometimes I Believe She Loves Me (Audio CD)
Barbara Dane used to work the Gate of Horn in Chicago, and the folk spots in between. She was a superb Blues singer, and a fine guitarist who brought an "authenticity" to her Blues that set her a long way from Blues imitators... she was a complete original. Political, musical, edgy and intense: there was no one like her then or now. She was married for a time to Rolf Cahn, the Cambridge, Mass scene maker and guitarist cum guru who made Boston a hot spot on the early sixties folk map.
Hopkins remains simply the greatest of the Texas style Blues guitarists... his vocals are an amazing complement to one of the great American Blues guitar styles: a complete original whose true worth has never completely measured. Put these two together, and you have more than you bargained for... |
