Book Description

June 1, 2002
Aaliyah Barnwell in her tumultuous quest for love finds exactly what she doesn't need, "a married man!" Benjamin Braithwait is charming, articulate and very much married. Their worlds collide when a trip to the bookstore sends them down the aisle of curiosity, self-discovery and infidelity. "There's nothing a married man can do for me," Aaliyah says adamantly, while struggling with her desires and her spirituality in a way that is open and honest. It was not her purpose to have an affair. So, how did it happen? How did she fall in love? Wasn't God enough? "Love always comes with sacrifices." Would she have to give up the one thing she wants most? Without coming across as preachy, this story touches on the theme of adultery, divorce, remarriage and the struggles that a multi-faceted woman (who in the midst of all this turmoil, rededicates her life to God) suffers. This refreshing story allows "the other woman" to tell what she feels, what she thinks, while fighting to keep the one thing she desires within her grasp, love.

5.0 out of 5 stars STEP OUT ON FAITH, May 26, 1999
By A Customer
Linda, this is a refresing story. I would like to say thank you for writing a wonderful novel. This novel deals with real issues that we as women and men face each and every day. Alot of times we say, why me? We go through things to test our faith and to make us stronger . I just love the Lord and can say that I have made some bad decisions In my life as well but the Lord I serve is a forgiving God and with that In mind I can say I'm truly BLESSED. This novel shows how people say, she/he is a Christian why are they acting that way or doing that? We all make mistakes. Who are we to judge? I could go on and on but I just want to say to everyone out in readers land go out and buy this book yourself. Don't borrow it from anyone because you need your own copy to read over and over. Linda, your are awesome. Please continue to allow the light of the Lord to shine through you. Be Blessed. ***Another good read*** Temptations by Victoria Christopher Murray.

4.0 out of 5 stars This novel portrayed a sensitive topic in a profound manner., September 23, 1999

Having an affair with a married man is a situation many women, unfortunately find themselves involved in. Ms. Grosvenor took this topic and with much love and care, told a story that a lot of women wish would come true. I enjoyed reading this book and was very surprised by the ending. I liked how God played an important role in the main character's decisions. I have recommended this book to many people to show them that love, with God's help, will work out if it is meant to be.

1.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Story, Poor Storytelling, January 23, 2000
I was truly amazed to see so many positive reviews for this book. I thought the author had a very interesting story with some serious issues involved, but the manner in which she told the story was terrible. The story just didn't flow. She didn't tell the story in a way that made you care anything about any of the characters, there was no emotion conveyed in her writing. The dialogue was EXTREMELY difficult to follow. And the highlighting of brand names - what was that for? Did they pay her to do it? And I didn't like the intermingling of Christianity with adultery, and basically saying it's okay with the character's happy ending. Things rarely, if ever, work out that way in adulterous relationships, and God doesn't condone it, no matter how you try to sugarcoat it. All my friends loved the book, we passed it around at work. I'm just glad I didn't pay money for it, it was one of the worst books I've ever read. I think Grosvenor has some interesting stories to tell, I just hope her storytelling gets better with her next book.
