I don't usually review books that I am selling on amazon, but this book deserves it. I feel like it addresses so many issues that ADHD families suffer through. It talks about school performance, school assistance, medication, doctors, behavioral modification charts (that can be copies out of the back of the book for later usage.)
The text is well researched w/ an extensive bibliography. The format of the book is easy for kids to understand. I think this book could bring a lot of relief to kids and their families. :) Marykay

My son has struggled in school due to behavior issues, difficulty following the rules and staying focused on work long enough to finish before recess. This year's teacher isn't in tune with his different learning style and we've had to look at the big picture and admit that ADHD is probably the explanation for what is going on. So, along with finding a counselor who is in the process of evaluating for ADHD, I have introduced the topic to my son so that he knows what ideas we're looking at. The public library had this book and I will probably purchase a copy now that I see how well received it is by my child. He saw himself in the book at every page turn and is really thrilled and relieved that there is a logical explanation for why he has such a hard time in school. ADHD has many facets and is exhibited differently by each child so is not always easy to recognize, but once you get there, this is the book for your child if he/she is in the elementary grades.

My ADHD son is now 21 and doing very well in college and in life generally. He was a handful when he was younger struggling with school and social relationships. I first purchased this book when my son was about 8 years old. It explains ADHD in a constructive and easy to understand way while still being a fun read for a child. It often was the book he selected for bedtime reading....and he still remembers it fondly. I've since purchased this book as gifts for weary parents of other ADHD kids. Without exception their children also favored this book. It explains the medical condition while still placing an appropriate level of responsibility on the child for good behavior. Thus parents like the book too! I also had success (after many other failed efforts) with the behavior modification techniques described in 1-2-3 Magic by Thomas Phelan.
