Great for helping children to understand autism!,
By
This review is from: Sometimes My Brother: Helping Kids Understand Autism Through a Sibling's Eyes (Paperback)
I just read this book and it is a great way to explain the characteristics of autism to young children. Autism is a very complex subject and it's very hard to bring it down to a child's level. My son has autism and has many of the traits mentioned in this book. The author explains them all very well. The author gives suggestions on how to personalize the story for other families/children. This is great - then you can take your personalized story to your church, school or even young members of your family to help them to understand autism.

The best book I've found about Autism!,

This review is from: Sometimes My Brother: Helping Kids Understand Autism Through a Sibling's Eyes (Paperback)
This book is truly the best book to explain Autism to a child or a sibling of an Autistic child. The text is easy to understand and relate to as a child and the pictures are amazing. I have a son with Autism and this book helped to explain to my younger son without Autism why his brother does some of the things that he does. I am also a 3rd grade teacher and I have read the book to my class and they really enjoyed it and related to the book. We had lots of great discussions and they have a much better understanding of Autism. I also love the way that the author has given suggestions in the back of the book to how you can personalize this book for your own loved one with Autism. I would recommend this book to anyone that needs an easy to understand book about Autism.

My son is older than his autistic brother but was very much able to relate to just about everything in this book. It opened up a door for my older son to talk about his issues that he has with his autistic brother. He is now interested in reading more about autisim and realizes he's not the only one who has a unique family member. Which of course...we wouldn't have it any other way. He's our little man. :)

So touching!,

Finally, a really good book for explaining autism to siblings! This was a very touching book. It led to a lot of great questions from my kids about their brother and autism. I would highly recommend this book to others. My only advice is if you are a mom, to read it first by yourself before reading it to your other children. I had to choke back some tears!

We LOVE this book. We have a NT daughter, age 4 and a 6-yr. old son with ASD. This book really gets it. Simple but perfect. The words are short and to the point as it is written as a toddler would speak. Lots of big pictures to show what the words are conveying also. I can see this as being a great book for classmates and friends also.

Wonderful book,

This book was fabulous. I ordered it as part of a project to promote the sibling point of view regarding various disabilities. This is a very appropriate read for young children but also great for adults. I enjoyed the photos that capture both the good and bad moments siblings can have together. I highly suggest this book.
