Review

"An intriguing, gripping ghost story with a focus on romance rather than terror." ~Reviewed by Stephanie E with Fallen Angels Reviews

Romancing the Book: "Ms. Trissel captivates her reader from the moment you start reading the first page. She has written a compelling love story that spans some fifty plus years and keeps you entertained every step of the way with the story within a story...I fell in love with her characters and look forward to the next delightful story ready with Kleenex box in hand. A must read for every romance fan." ~Reviewed by Robin

Sizzling Hot Book Reviews: "As I read on, I didn't put it down. I even went back and re read it! For all it is melancholy, it is a sweet story of past and present loves and how they parallel. The feelings of each of the main characters are written well and though only a few days pass in the story, it covered years of emotions, and glimpse of a family through the years. When I finished Somewhere the Bells Ring, I felt a sense of peace and calm, a wonderful thing at any time, but especially during the hectic Christmas season that is the setting of this story." ~Reviewed by Beverly

From the Author

Somewhere in Time Series (Christmas)
The old Virginia home place where my father was born and raised and I grew up visiting over the holidays has inspired more than one story I've written.  I spent some wonderfully memorable Christmas's in that beautiful plantation home (circa 1816) but the ones I'm most sentimental about were in the late 1960's. Drawn to that era, I set my Christmas romance, Somewhere the Bells Ring, in 1968 during the tumultuous age of hippies, Vietnam, and some of the best darn rock music ever written.

Not only did that nostalgic time period beckon to me but also an earlier one, 1918 and the end of World War One.  Not in the way of battle scenes, but in the form of a wounded soldier recently returned from war-weary France who lives in the house. Having a Marine Corps Captain grandfather who distinguished himself during the thick of the fighting in France during The Great War and then tragically died when my father was only three definitely influenced this story-dedicated to the grandfather I never knew, but grieved all the same.

But the biggest influence was the poignant dream I had years ago about a young woman visiting this house during the Christmas holidays and the mysterious gentleman she met. That dream nagged at me every Christmas until I finally wrote their story.  If you enjoy an intriguing mystery with Gothic overtones and heart-tugging romance set in vintage America then Somewhere the Bells Ring is for you.

Married to my high school sweetheart, I live on a farm in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia with my human family and furbabies. An avid gardener, my love of herbs and heirloom plants figures into my work. The rich history of Virginia, the Native Americans, and the people who journeyed here from far beyond her borders are at the heart of my inspiration. I'm especially drawn to colonial America and the drama of the American Revolution. In addition to historical romance, I also write time travel, paranormal, YA fantasy romance, and nonfiction.

I expected a sweet romantic Christmas read, and this is *exactly* what I received -- and more! Loved the paranormal element, the parallels between the past hero/heroine and present day Eric and Bailey, the lush setting and descriptive history of the house and the region. Even the "hip" dialogue from the 1968 era reminded me of that time. I totally recommend this book.

Ms. Trissel captivates her reader from the moment you start reading the first page. She has written a compelling love story that spans some fifty plus years and keeps you entertained every step of the way with the story within a story.

The year is 1968 and we find that Christmas is almost upon us. Bailey Randall finds herself sent to recoup in Virginia at Maple Hill. All because she messed up in collage by experimenting with pot and was found with a young man in room. So after being chastised by the dean and her father off she goes to stay with Meg at Maple Hill.

There is a quirky but very loving bunch of people that you instantly fall in love with at Maple Hill. Meg, who just happens to be every ones dotty old aunt; along with Ella, the cook/housekeeper/keeper of secrets, reminds you of the old cooks in all those black and white movies. She knows more than she should but keeps secrets when needed.

Although they are deeply involved in the story it isn’t about them. Instead it is about Bailey and Eric.

Bailey while out walking the dog sees something in one of the rooms that hasn’t been used in a long time. Because she smoked pot everyone says it is just her imagination.

Meanwhile an old friend comes home from the Vietnam War. Eric notices how much Bailey has grown up; he finds he is very attracted to her.

Bailey decides to go investigate and finds herself face to face with the ghost of Edwards’s grandfather who tells her of never having been able to say good-bye to his beloved Claire at Christmas. She finds out about the present and how he comes back every year until the bells ring Christmas Eve.

Aside from the premise, I wasn't sure what this book had to do with the others of the series, but hey, it was still a good read.

What a sweet romance!! A throwback to a time and place where people fell in love with a kiss, a touch of the hand, a look in a gaze across the room. I loved Bailey and Eric. The location was romantic and wonderful, along with a touch of time-travel. I will be getting the rest of Ms. Trissel's books. I have a new must-buy.

This lovely story that reads like a throw-back in time, engaged me early on. Though more a period piece set in the 1960s, it struck me as an historical much of the time. Romantic prose and the heavy influence of the historical aspect made for a tender and sweet romance. Bailey and Eric discover there is much more to their acquaintance than meets the eye! I loved the paranormal aspect, and the twist where the ghost actually helps Bailey out instead of her thinking she needed to help him was great.
Well done, and very enjoyable read by Beth Trissel

I was predisposed to like this story because it was set in a time that's dear to my heart. My thanks to Beth Trissel for making me remember that there was more to the Vietnam era than strife. Some of it was just fun. I loved this story.

I settled down just before Christmas to read this and was enthralled with this sweet, haunting romance. I also loved revisiting the sixties.

Beth Trissel doesn't disappoint!
