5.0 out of 5 stars 1999's Best Album
Eventhough this CD has been out for over a year now,I wanted to put in my two cents. 1.0 out of 5 stars Good stuff
I had written a bad review earlier, but alas, I was young, and now appreciate this type of music. Check it out sometime!

Eventhough this CD has been out for over a year now,I wanted to put in my two cents. My number one CD for 1999, "Somewhere Between Heaven and Earth" is also one of the strongest and most important releases of the past decade. Once referred to as "the thinking man's Joan Jett", this was Cindy's first release in ten years. I was immediately impressed with the growth this CD showed over 1989's "Cindy Bullens"; there was a diversity and power that was instantly evident. This, coupled with the CD's backstory (the death of Cindy's daughter)makes this one a keeper. What's so amazing, though, is that you don't need to have suffered such a profound loss to be able to appreciate or identify with this CD. The loss of a loved one, a romantic break-up...."Somewhere..." relates to any and all situations yet, at the same time, remains just great rock and roll. Besides top-notch songwriting and musicianship, the arrangements in particular stand out. Guest artists such as Bonnie Raitt, Rodney Crowell, Bryan Adams and Lucinda Williams might overpower a lesser artist, but Cindy knows how to use them all to their fullest potential without ever taking a backseat or getting lost in the mix. Some of the CD's hi-lites include "Water On The Moon" (a haunting duet with Rodney Crowell that has "hit-waiting-to-happen" written all over it), the rocking "Something To Believe In", "Boxing With God", with it's great blend of humor and poignancy, the beautiful "Lights Of Paris" and the powerful CD closer "Better Than I've Ever Been". In summation, I just want to say I've given "Somewhere......" as a gift to fourteen people. Three of those people, in turn, have given it to other people. Everyone has loved it. So will you. Do yourself a favor - BUY THIS ALBUM!

When I lost my 21 year old son to leukemia, I was looking for solace in any form.I remembered an article I had taken from a magazine before my son's death, about cindy's experience and resulting album. I found the album in a local music store. I listened to it again and again, bathing in the exquisite pain felt by another mother's loss. It is a healing experience- you can place yourself in any one of her songs. We played "As Long As You Love" at my son's memorial service. I thank Cindy for a truly beautiful gift from her heart.

I had the priviledge of seeing Cindy Bullens last weekend at a National Conference for TCF. I had purchased her CD several months ago, but, after seeing her perform and hearing her background story, all I can say is that everyone who has ever lost a loved one should DEFINITELY own this CD. Her music (words and music written by her) make you more aware of every emotion you possess.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this for anyone who is healing from the loss of a child!, September 22, 1999

This CD is incredibly moving. If you know anyone who has lost a child, or if you have experienced a loss yourself, then you must have this CD. While some may find Cindy Bullens' voice edgy, her lyrics and music will touch your soul with her heartfelt message.

I bought one for my friend who's child has a terminal illness, & then ended up buying one for myself, too. God bless anyone who has experienced this kind of pain, & may God give you the strength to keep on surviving.

I have owned this CD for over a year and shared it with yet another new person this week-end. The messages are so powerful that it is a privilege to share it with others. The music is beautiful and the messages all hit home for anyone who has ever lost someone or is just reflecting on how quickly time and life passes. Far from being depressing, the music is motivational and I find it encourages me to make the most of today and tomorrow. The Lights of Paris was my favorite track initially, but now I love them all. I have participated in several online chat sessions with Cindy and she is one awesome lady. Thanks for sharing this music with us, Cindy!

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing song sycle for anyone who has experienced loss!, August 17, 2000

Cindy Bullens has used her considerable writing skills and pleasant voice to create a CD that goes beyond the expected. This is not a depressing bunch of songs that only people who have lost children could love. Instead, this CD is a song cycle in the classic sense, exploring the many facets of grief. Any one who has ever experienced a loss can find something to relate to in this. "I've Gotta Believe in Something" has become my personal theme song for recovering from an infertility diagnosis, and several lines from other songs run through my head, both inspiring me and helping me to see that other people have felt this way and lived. This one is well worth purchasing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magic happens!, December 7, 1999
This review is from: Somewhere Between Heaven & Earth (Audio CD)
If Cindy Bullens never recorded again, her legacy would be secure with this masterwork. There is not a wasted line or wasted breath on this CD. Although her tragedy is intensely personal, anyone who has loved and lost will relate to these songs.

This album floored me. Honest, brutal, and brilliant. The most gut-wrenching songwriting I've heard in a long time. She's turned her personal tragedy into a beautiful work of art. PLEASE check this album out.
