A Great Coffee Table Book--for the Middle East
I live in the Middle East, and have found this book very entertaining and useful. Entertaining, because whenever my Arab neighbors come over, they really get a kick out of the clever proverbs and witty sayings. It's always a great book for a conversation starter or sustainer. It's also useful because it gives great Arabic language and cultural instruction...

illustrations are not meaningfull
This Book is NO good, as the illustrations on the listed proverbs are not actually related to the proverb meaning. I was expecting to see the drawings actually expressing the Proverb meanning, which is not the case. I do not recommend this book for anyone

I live in the Middle East, and have found this book very entertaining and useful. Entertaining, because whenever my Arab neighbors come over, they really get a kick out of the clever proverbs and witty sayings. It's always a great book for a conversation starter or sustainer.
It's also useful because it gives great Arabic language and cultural instruction. You can really get to know the heart and soul of a people through their proverbs, and this book helps you understand the Arab people better by teaching you some of their numerous sayings of wisdom.

The proverbs in the book range from common, to downright hilarious. They are printed in Arabic with english translations. A fantastic resource for students of Arabic at all levels.

A small collection of Egyptian wisdom,

This is a fun book with a relatively innovative idea. It includes a sample of Egyptian proverbs accompanied with illustrations and written in Arabic with English translation. Most proverbs are quite funny, but they also reflect much wisdom in their meaning. This is a very pleasant book which can be a helpful aid in learning the language.
