Book Description

Talk about a mess! It’s not Gerald’s baby, it’s Joey’s. Katie is a chubby redhead. Her parents are divorced, and she’s been pulled between her parents in custody battles for years. Her mother is a democrat, and her father and stepmother are Bible-thumping Republicans. They are not going to be happy with Katie, but she’s done being pulled. She’s trying to stand on her own two feet, and she’s going to do what’s right for her son. Joey is brilliant, handsome, and his mom was 1/2 black. He’s kicked Katie out and denies paternity. Gerald Olsen looks like a Nordic god, all blond and blue-eyed. He’s also heir to the Riverton Chemical & Petroleum Company. But Gerald falls in love with Katie, and he’s not choosing between body parts. He wants her and the son she’s carrying.

E. Ayers is one whose books are so true to life. I've thought that with others I've read by this author. A Son is wonderful, and I can relate to some of the story. You must read this book. It is beautifully written. Looking forward to the next E. Ayers River City Novel!

3.0 out of 5 stars Characters unreal, needs plot conflict May 31, 2014

I am not sure what book the others were reading but I felt the characters were not believable at all - especially Gerard. And the romance story lacked romance. The couple was together basically from the start and there was nothing that threatened their relationship or that they had to overcome. (I don't count the "mixed" child as being a real big issue.) I kept waiting for something "more". That said, I did finish the book but overall the story and characters felt lacking to me.

4.0 out of 5 stars a son March 5, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I absolutely love this book especially how Gerald step in and took care of Katie!! A must read book. The only reason I gave it a four rate was because I mean the prejudice for the baby being half black I mean now and days people dont care what color the baby is but I guess!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great read March 24, 2013

An interesting book that kept me turning the pages. I felt it was little too long and the racial aspect a little overstated but other this I enjoyed the book.

More About the Author

E. Ayers is a true believer in love at first sight because it happened to her, she thinks everyone should find that special someone. When it happens, it's magical. Writing about that love is what she enjoys doing and when she's not spending time with her two dogs and waiting on his royal highness (the cat), she's busy writing. The official matchmaker for all the characters who wander through her brain, she likes finding just the right ones to create a story.

She writes a slice-of-life novel, the romantic slice in two characters lives. In today's world, most people have careers and responsibilities. Figuring out how to blend two separate lives into one can be a huge dilemma. No one is perfect. She brings that into what she writes.

The fantasy of a handsome hunk who will sweep the damsel off her feet and carry her off to a castle in the clouds is still there, but that castle is probably a condo. And that damsel isn't going to be persuaded by a few smooth lines.
