"Son of a Gun" is so different from all of Janets other records. Her voice is so Mean and deep.It sounds like she almost has a cold, and its so sexy.Of course,my favorite singer of all times,Carly Simon,is fantastic as always. This artist is still growing, just like Janet is."YOU TELL THEM CARLY"I love how Janet says that, and calls her my girl.Thank you Janet for loving the great songs from the 70's,"Your Son Vain," and a legend on your "All for you," CD.

Sorry I couldn't think of a more creative title, but this is one of Janet's coolest recent songs to date and IMO the best Single off her latest album "All For You." I never heard the original version by Carly Simon so I had to judge my review from this one...and I luv it! This is her newest version of duet-with-folksingers number since "Got 'Till It's Gone" with Joni Mitchell. I think this one is way better and has less of an R&B feel (Except for the two remixes). "Son of a Gun" is reccomended to ANY Janet fan like myself or any Carly fan who isn't mad at them doing a cool collaboration. I give The Album Version an A, the Missy Elliot version a B+ and the P Diddy Version a B+!

If you liked the video of this song, you have to buy this single, 'cause the video version of "Son of a Gun" is very different than the album version. Almost all the remixes are better than the album version (I think it's enough to mention only the two names: Missy Elliott and P Diddy) and Janet looks very pretty on the cover. ;)

You son of a gun!,

Janet's newest single from "All 4 U" is my favorite. "All 4 U" is a good song, but I didn't want to buy that. "Someone to call my lover" is nice song too, but, that's not my favorite. So, I bought "Son of a gun" with Carly Simon. Track 1 is the ORIGINAL FLYTE TYME REMIX and it is basically like the album version except it features Missy Elliott.Track 2 is P DIDDY REMIX with p diddy and Missy. It's not my favorite, but it is good. Track 3 is the COTTONBELLY REMIX it is a jazzy version of it and has the saxophone playing. My fav is track 4 ROCK REMIX with Missy. It is totally cool and it has that funky beat to it. and track 5 is the ALBUM VERSION. I say you should buy the Cd, but think twice.

The album version is the only good one on here!,

Yet again, the one who used to be in control takes a nasty spill with the muddled up mess that is known as Son Of A Gun. The song uses Carly Simons "You're So Vain" as the backbone. Carlys appearence is actually her narrating and not, I repeat, NOT rapping as a good number of ppl have said and it doesn't bother me that much. The version with Carly Simon is the only good version on here. The rest are absolutely trite and faceless hip-hop junk aimed at the TRL masses and it had a modest impact on the charts, only reaching number 28. It's not because of bad promotion but it was because of how awful the Missy Elliot and P. Diddy remixes really are. P. Diddy is one of the most overrated rappers of all time. Missy Elliot has a little bit of talent but not a whole lot of it although Missy ranks well above the degrading female rappers of today. The garbage bag costume was awesome though. The only version that is worthy of listening to is the parent album version. The rest are just drab commercial fluff aimed at TRL masses. I would've said that I say go for this single instead of All For You but even the good version with Carly Simon is passable because Janet has so much better material in here catalog. I say go and get all of her albums from Control through the Velvet Rope. A vast majority of everything else since then can be left on the shelf. Sorry Ms. Jackson but you've done so much better than this. Try again! :)

I'm usually not that much of a Janet fan - sure, I listened to her songs, and enjoyed them most of the time. I became a big fan with the release of Velvet Rope, and my interest then faded. Then I heard "Son Of A Gun" on the radio. Perhaps Janet's most original song in a while. I'm glad she brought Carly Simon and Missy Elliot (and P.Diddy, if you count the remix) onboard for this, instead of just sampling the "I betcha think this song is about you..." line. In fact, the real star of this song is Carly Simon, who steals the show the whole way through.
