5.0 out of 5 stars Great Single
This song is so unique; it has so many different versions that the song almost completely changes with each remix. The original (album) version is just Janet and Carly Simon (Carly made a request to Janet to help with the remake, and this is what came out -- it's my personal favorite, still). Then there are the Missy Elliot versions, and P Diddy version, Rockwilder...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Again...
Janet Jackson's third and last single from the ALL FOR YOU album is yet another mis-step. "Son of a Gun" samples the Carly Simon classic "You're So Vain", and also includes Carly Simon with some reworked lyrics. Overall its a poorly produced, badly sampled, jumbled mess. Definately one of the weaker songs from ALL FOR YOU. However the saving grace for...

This song is so unique; it has so many different versions that the song almost completely changes with each remix. The original (album) version is just Janet and Carly Simon (Carly made a request to Janet to help with the remake, and this is what came out -- it's my personal favorite, still). Then there are the Missy Elliot versions, and P Diddy version, Rockwilder version, and a Cottonbelly vocal mix -- they are all different, but all have the same great beat. The thing that makes this song different it that Jan doesn't really "sing" for a lot of it, but she more chants them (sorry, I can't think of a better word) in a monotone voice (very controling, and strong). Here's the track list:

1. Jam & Kewis Remix Ft Missy Elliott
2. P Diddy Remix Ft Missy Elliott
3. Cottonbelly Vocal Remix
4. Rockwilder Mix
5. Album Version

Get the single if you like the song (obviously), but get the All For You album if you just want the original -- they're about the same price, and you get nineteen other tracks with Son of a Gun.

Great Song Good Remixes, My only complaint is that this is the edited version. I don't always approve of cussing in songs but, this one just sounds better with the cuss words. The edits are irritating when they bleep out the profanity.

Definately one of the weaker songs from ALL FOR YOU. However the saving grace for fans may come in the form of the remixes, there are some decent ones here, including the Cottonbelly Vocal Remix, and the Rockwilder Mix. However, the remix featuring Missy Elliot is just pointless and jumbled as well. Sorry Janet, maybe next time.
