1.0 out of 5 stars My all time WORST FILM EVER winner!!! May 3, 2006
So far it's been a rough time with movies getting worse with each comming year. But ever so rarely among the visual smut ,sinks a film that really demands our scorn and disgust!!!

You need only read the other reviews of this film to see how much people hate it.Among the worst films in my "worst films ever " category this one tops the list!!!

So congratulatios Mr.Guterman YOU just set the new low standard for america's most craptastic movies.(take bow and let us stuff this movie were it belongs)

2.0 out of 5 stars This one is really for the kids. April 21, 2006
I can just picture how this movie came to be:

"So how else can we screw up our careers?"

"I know! Let's take a film that was wildly successful and make a sequel out of it!

"Perfect! We'll get B-grade actors who have half the charisma and want only 10% of Carrey's original salary. We'll save millions and rake in a massive profit, never mind the fact nobody wants to see a second rate sequel with none of the original actors that made it popular in the first place! We as executives still honestly believe a movie was popular based on the name and story, not the actors who made it so in the first place!"

"Brilliant! Let's put a massive budget and get the cheapest actors we can find!"

And really, that's what Son of the Mask can be described as. Just a simple B-grade movie that attempts to suck the life out of its original classic.

Nevertheless, if the movie didn't contain the words the mask, or anything to do with the mask, it would be a nice kid's movie. For all its massive flaws and horrible acting, this really will appeal to kids because it surly did to mine. It's a good natured flick that really wants to scream out "like me!" but only those 8 and younger will truly enjoy it.

Jamie Kennedy is clearly is trying to make the material work, playing the desperate dad but the script is so poor, the only thing that spews out that is worthwhile was my drink after seeing this. The character of Loki also deserves a mention, as he was the most enjoyable character and really one of the only reasons for older adults to see this film. It's too bad the character is wasted on this film; I would have really liked to have seen the character take on the true mask. Instead, we are reduced to fart jokes and toilet humor near the end.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievably bad May 22, 2005
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
This is one of those movies that you sit and watch in stunned amazment at just how incredibly bad it is. It is hard to pull yourself from it once you start viewing it since you are drawn to see if it somehow accidently has some redeeming piece only to be struck aghast as it takes another even more dramatic turn deeper into garbage.
Junk, rotten, stinker, garbage... Try all the words you know and none, not even in every possible combination can convey just what a bad movie this is.

What is with filmmakers today taking CGI where CGI shouldn't be taken? I thought the Scooby Doo films had some pretty bad CGI characters but Son of the Mask takes the cake by far. The only CGI character they got away with was masked Ottis, the family dog. And that's fine. I can accept an animated green faced dog running around causing mischief and trying to blow things up in a very cartoonish manner. This worked because CGI anthropomorphism is just easier to accept and it didn't try to switch from normal Ottis to crazy masked Ottis in one or two shots. When Ottis was masked, he remained masked for a while, so really there was no comparison between the real dog and the animated dog. But with the baby, this was a totally different story because the baby didn't need the wear the mask, it was in his genes, so when he did something crazy and cartoony it went from a real shot of the baby to an instant CGI baby and this just looked horrible. The CGI baby looked like a deformed version of the real baby and when they tried to blend the real shots with the animated shots it just ended up looking really stupid and pathetic.

Aside from that, the movie had some overall embarassingly stupid characters that were very badly acted and had a drunken out of control car wreck of a storyline, all about 7 or 8 years too late. Everything about this movie was just ridiculous. It completely failed at being zaney cartoony fun, something I remember from the first Mask film. Easily one of the worst films of 2005.

3.0 out of 5 stars Come on, the cute baby is worth a star alone. July 16, 2005
Okay i admit this is movie is stupid and will never win an oscar or will the director get any credit in the movie business. And this movie will not shoot Jamie kennedy out of his B-movie profile BUT this movie is good just to get some dumb laughs in and just see a cute CGI filled movie. This movie blends in the type of humor you would get from a loony toons or tom and jerry cartoon. Jamie kennedy is very flat and not funny in this movie the only chuckles you will get from him are his face reactions to the baby causing terror.

What about the plot you ask??

well the story is Jamie kennedy's character has sex with his wife while he has the mask on that he found. The baby comes out and has the traits of the mask, which is mischief and cartoonish moves. And dont even compare this movie to the original since this movie doesnt even deserve to be compared to a classic. For the parents...

This movie does have some crude humor and some cursing it's not really a "round up the whole family and sit them around the TV"type movie,i recommend it to kids 8 and up.

Well personally i wouldnt buy this movie BUT it's worth a rental and just to pass time on a boring slow day.

1.0 out of 5 stars 10 mins of excitement, 70 mins of horrible
