Editorial Reviews

the Andy Garcia video "Cachao: como su ritmo no hay dos," 1993

"Nelson Gonzalez is truly the world ambassador for the cuban Tres guitar." Israel Lopez "Cachao"

Product Description

Son Mundano means world music. From the cover: "We are all of the same clay, same earth, and one heart." This is a collection of world music exploring the expressive capabilities of Nelson Gonzalez and his Cuban Tres guitar, featuring the soulful singing of Danny Rivera. The songs range from light hearted to heavily rhythmical to deeply intimate. Best described as Latin Jazz, this album vibrates from Nelson’s own heart, while paying respect to the musical-spiritual friendship of Cuba and Puerto Rico.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love it, March 16, 2001
By
This review is from: Son Mundano (Audio CD)
I love this CD, because it has everything: Fast, slow, vocal, instrumental, and it all sounds great. I found Nelson's website through a search, and was impressed with everything he's done, and it sent me to Amazon.com, so I got the CD. I listen to it every day. I hope he puts another one out, soon. He's such an amazing musician. I like how he features the sound of the Tres, and includes it in so many different styles. He's great.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great CD!, March 14, 2001

I've been a big fan of Nelson's since I noticed him on Marc Anthony's HBO special. He a fabulous Tres player! But, I never knew he had his own Cd out. So, I got it and I love it. He's got his own style, and you can really hear his personality come through these songs. It always puts me in a good mood. Danny Rivera's "Alma Mia" is really great, but my favorite song is "Alma con Alma"(soul to soul) with just the Tres and no singer at all. This album is really great. It's got the true cuban rhythms, but with a jazzier sound. Really warm and sunny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, March 30, 2010

Some classic New York latin jazz sounds here. Standouts include "Somos del mismo barro" and "Serenata en tambores," the latter being Shubert's serenade. "No Tienes porque llorar" appears but a better version can be found on Cachao's "Ahora Si" CD (done in changui style there).
