More About the Author

Stan Lee is a man who needs no introduction. Nevertheless: Having begun his career with wartime Timely Comics and staying the course throughout the Atlas era, Stan the Man made comic-book history with Fantastic Four #1, harbinger of a bold new perspective in story writing that endures to this day. With some of the industry's greatest artists, he introduced hero after hero in Incredible Hulk, Amazing Spider-Man, X-Men and more -- forming a shared universe for rival publishers to measure themselves against. After an almost literal lifetime of writing and editing, Lee entered new entertainment fields and earned Marvel one opportunity after another. He remains one of Marvel's best-known public representatives.

5.0 out of 5 stars A peek into the thought processes of the geniuses that created the characters of the Marvel comics, February 3, 2010
When I was young, my parents did their grocery shopping at a small neighborhood store where the owner allowed me to read the comics while they shopped. Therefore, I was able to read most of the original stories of the Marvel super heroes that explained their origins. After reaching the end of a cliffhanger I was always at a high level of anticipation when I approached the rack, hoping that the next issue would be there. Therefore, reading this book was very much a look back to exciting times of my youth.
The level of creative genius that was present at Marvel comics in the early sixties was astounding, new and interesting characters were created on a regular basis. While the characters have changed over time, the reader of the first issues featuring that character will still recognize them in the feature films that have come out four decades later. What I liked best about this book is that Stan Lee includes an explanation of some of the ideas that led to the character. This look back into their thought processes will interest all people that have ever enjoyed reading a comic book.
The origins featured in this book are:

*) The X-Men
*) Iron Man
*) The Avengers
*) Daredevil
*) Nick Fury, Agent of S. H. I. E. L. D.
*) The Watcher
*) The Silver Surfer

4.0 out of 5 stars Graphic SF Reader, September 3, 2007
This review is from: Son of Origins of Marvel Comics (Paperback)
Another of the groundbreaking collected editions of Marvel Comics stories. This was actually published in the mid-1970s, so pretty amazing for the time.

This included the origin of the X-Men, so got me started on knowing about them, as well as Daredevil, Iron Man and other heroes, again with information and stories from Stan Lee.

This review is from: Son of Origins of Marvel Comics (Paperback)
this volume brings us the first tales of some of the most popular comic heros today..Iron man ...the invincible golden avenger when he was grey......daredevil....who is enjoying incredible popularity even today due to the writing of kevin (dogma) smith...the strangest super heroes of them all the X-men, who are now the stars of a blockbuster summer movie (which was also pretty good by the way)...the mighty avengers...featuring the hulk, thor, ironman....i enjoyed tracing the origins of these

pop culture icons...and recommend the essential marvel line of books to anyone who would like a better look at these nostalgic tales.
