5.0 out of 5 stars Prodigal Son is Back, December 19, 1999

I have been waiting since early 70's to hear Sam's destinct voice and musical style again. He's an artist who doesn't fit the norm of any category, except maybe Home. The songs fill a familiar niche from the first time they are heard

Sam and I were born in the same town (Cuero, Texas) less than three months apart. I did not know Sam then, however, in the early 70s I became a great fan of his easy, down home music that speaks of everyday life. I have all of Sam's earlier albums and "Son of the South" is a great maturing of Sam's voice and music. I would recommend it to anyone. What can I say other than it is great music that takes me back home to the country every time I listen to it. The songs he writes and sings are of everyday life and mimic many of my own experiences. I only hope that Sam continues to furnish such great music. Also, if Sam's earlier albums were remastered and reissued on compact disc every Sam fan would have more of his great music to enjoy.

P.S. Sam's first album "Long Road To Texas" is now available on remastered CD directly from Sam at his website. Hopefully Amazon will not mind a little competition since this is a self-marketed CD of Sam's. Any Sam fans should certainly like this CD in addition to "Son Of The South". Happy listening.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST !!!!, March 10, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Son Of The South (Audio CD)
Iv'e been a Sam Neely fan since 1975, and I'm thrilled to see that Sam has something new. I have all of his albums (yes, those
big round black things you play on a record player/stereo)and the
clarity of this cd is great. Sam's voice is wonderful on this
project, I especially like tracks 6 (Here I Am Again) and 7 (Love
Carries On).
Thanks Sam for the GREAT music, and hope you release something soon, we miss ya!

Buy it and take it home. You will be listening to "A Legend", over and over again. Sam Neely's singing and songwriting has never been better. His songwriting will truly amaze you, because he shares his own experiences with you, his fans. Sam is truly "THE SON OF THE SOUTH"! I look forward to his next, up and coming CD.

Sam has a unique style that will grab any progressive country fan. If you remember "Loving you just crossed my mind" you will remember that no-one on the planet can intrepet a tune like Sam Neely. This latest effort, Son of the South is no exception. Check it out. I guarantee you wont regret it. If Texas country with a soulful wail is your bag, then Sam Neely is the fresh air you've been needing! I give it five stars!!!! Steve Weldon

This review is from: Son Of The South (Audio CD)
Son of the South , Unforgettable songs of today. Sam Neely his voice , warm and golden like the Texas sun. It awakes the dawn of forgetting and catches the dusk glow of a gentlness tenderly refined. A must add for all collections...

5.0 out of 5 stars Stirs Old Memories, March 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Son Of The South (Audio CD)
Son of the South is an entertaining and enjoyable collection of new wave country music. Neely's distinctive sound adds emphasis to the well played music. His lyrics stir up old memories for a Texan, like using Chinaberry's for ammunition in childhood "wars". This is an album you need to add to your collection.
