Janice Dietert, MA., is a literary, history and science writer. She is former instructor and Learning Disabilities Specialist at SUNY Binghamton where her Southern Tier, NY roots were firmly planted. Her knowledge of technical writing, historical details and rich literary tradition allows Janice to infuse her novels with holographic details such that characters, settings and events literally jump off the page drawing readers into new realities.

"Cinematic" is the term reviewers most often use to describe Janice's works as they are filled with unforgetable images and characters. Janice's novels provide readers with a wild ride that often bends time and space such that the reader's journey is as much fun as the final destination. Pick up a book, strap yourself in and get ready to experience those places where one universe is nice, but multiverses are definitely the rule.

5.0 out of 5 stars A sweeping, epic tale, August 6, 2007
This review is from: Son of the Star (Paperback)
Writing and literature teacher Janice Dietert presents Son of the Star, an operatic science fiction novel set on Earth and the planet Quentas. Exiled extra-terrestrial Michael Stellan must confront the secrets of his past and his origin, supported by his guardian and mentor Will Shepherdson. and the earth woman he loves, Jan. His quest to find the crucial elements to return home and set his world on its proper path is beset by treachery, intrigue, and power-mongering. A sweeping, epic tale of a royal family's struggle to retake their rightful throne and rebuild society in the wake of enslavement, highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Communication is Essential for Any Operation, June 14, 2007
By
This review is from: Son of the Star (Paperback)
So what's the problem with the bad-tempered professor/researcher who hires a gal to type his notes but otherwise seems to be deliberately rude or short with her as she attempts to adjust to his writing symbols and style? Mike Stellan, it turns out, has an awful burden on his mind, more than one actually; and as the reader comes to understand the unfolding story of past and present, the initial annoyance reaction evolves into compassion and care just as Mike evolves through meeting and working with Janielle Childen.

Janielle has her own burdens which initially seem to fog her thinking and reactions to the point where the reader wonders if she has a brain at all to question the supernatural, eerie happenings occurring not once but several times a day. Wonder about Jan will evolve into amazement indeed!

For it turns out, Mike and his companion, Will, from the planet Quentas, have been exiled by Saracen enemies who have taken over the Earth-like home where Mike is really King. The Saracens know his value and so have followed him to Earth to prevent his research that in turn will guarantee his return to his home planet.

Janice Dietert has a wonderful knack of combining real science, growing passionate love, and a plot that spins and spins and spins page after page from beginning to end. Magical creatures (Mollucs) who train Jan to assist her fiance/future King, a ring with supernatural powers, extraordinary but natural powers to fight enemies, and most of all constant engaging, endearing, and real dialogue with novel ideas pack these pages that are sure to please readers of every age. This is real science fiction that would make a great movie as well as the highly memorable and pleasurable read it definitely is!

This is a great book packed with adventure. It is a must read for those who love science fiction, and even for those who don't. This book should find readers from the general reading audience as well. It is very well written and researched. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romantic adventure packed with suspense. It is suitable for the 15 through 100 age group.

It is well worth the cost because it is a lengthy book with over 500 pages...and it is one of those books you really don't want to end.
