More About the Author

Scott R. Garrigus (www.garrigus.com). I began my musical journey at the age of 12 when my parents got me my first computer, the Atari 400. Ever since then, I have been fascinated with making music using technology. I spent one Summer working at a Daddy's Junky Music store and purchased my first electronic keyboard: the Roland JX-8P. Then after taking some music theory courses in high school and some private keyboard lessons, I was hooked even more.

I decided to pursue a career in music and audio engineering, which led me to earn a B.A. in music performance with an emphasis in sound recording technology. A couple years later (1993), I released my first instrumental album on cassette, entitled Pieces Of Imagination. Then in 1995, my career took a bit of a twist' I began my professional writing career when my first articles appeared in Electronic Musician magazine.

I never really intended to become a writer, but found I had a talent for explaining things in a clear and organized manner so that anyone could understand the information - even if it was highly technical. So in 2000, I authored my first book, Cakewalk Power! and I've been writing ever since. To date, I have written over 12 books and continue to contribute articles to a number of print and online publications. I also publish my own music technology newsletter, called DigiFreq (www.digifreq.com), which provides free information for home recording and professional music technology users all over the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book pays for itself in the first few chapters..., December 23, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sonar 7 Power!: The Comprehensive Guide (Paperback)
I recently purchased Sonar 7 Producer Edition, which was my first Digital Audio Workstation software purchase. The developers at Cakewalk have really created a wonderful piece of software, and I found it very easy to navigate and use even without reading the supplied manual. But after a few days I came to realize that this was a Monster of a program, and that I would need a reference book to learn all it's capabilites.

I purchased Sonar 7 Power! and was really impressed by how easy it was to read (not dry like most reference manuals) and how informative it was. I was just halfway into Chapter 3 when I realized that the book had already paid for itself with all the information it had given me on how to customize Sonar.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn the ins and outs of this awesome piece of software.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sonar 7 Power!: The Comprehensive Guide, April 4, 2008
This review is from: Sonar 7 Power!: The Comprehensive Guide (Paperback)
Though I am a seasoned professional, this is my first experience with a book by this author. I totally recommend it to anyone who needs further insight and understanding of Cakewalk Sonar 7 products. He has a concise way of walking you through the software points that could have been a challenge. Kudos to Scott on his "Powerful" (pun intended) book series. It is a pleasure to have the help of someone who obviously enjoys his work and has the clarity of mind and tenacity of purpose to put his ideas and suggestions in book form. You can easily zero in on specific areas of the software and the light bulb goes on through his guidance.
Great job, my friend.
And as always, great service by Amazon.Com.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scotty baby, you did it again!, June 21, 2008

This review is from: Sonar 7 Power!: The Comprehensive Guide (Paperback)
I purchased Scott's Sonar 7 a few weeks ago and have had time to digest it, and put it to use. This is a great reference for Sonar 7 users. Of course it's going to overlap with the "official" manual, it has to. It is written in a clear, concise, readable style. Scott has a knack of explaining technical items by writing very plainly, and throughly. The diagrams are very helpful...although I wish they were in color.
I strongly think you should break out and write a history book Scott. You would probably be a wonderful writer for school texts because your explanations of things bring the topic at hand to a level that young folks could easily grasp. I know because I'm a former teacher.
Keep on keepin' on with your writing!!!
