A charming and rich recording., March 11, 2007

I am disappointed that this recording is not currently available. It was a very welcome recording in my collection and it contains some works rarely recorded, including the "A due" duets for two trumpets by Biber.
The Sonatella for recorders by Antonio Bertali is a delight and Biber's Sonata pro tabula à 10 by Biber is played with great colour and style here. Musica Antiqua Köln is augmented by the Flanders Recorder Quartet. Reinhard Goebel's choice of tempi always seem natural to me and he obtains some very good interpretations from his ensemble.
Various "table music" sonatas are presented on this disc, works by Schmelzer, Valentini, Pezel, Bertali and, of course, Biber. A lovely collection of occasional Baroque instrumental works from Northern Europe in the 17th century.
The sort of album ARCHIV/DGG used to release all the time. Alas, even this recording now seems to be unavailable. If you see a copy, buy it.
