4.0 out of 5 stars a modicum of Milhaud, September 27, 2000

William F. Long (St. Charles, MO USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sonata for Winds & Piano Op 47 (Audio CD)
On this recording the Bulos Wind quintet plays Milhaud's "Sonate for Clarinet, Flute, Oboe and Piano" plus all his music for wind quintet including my favorite, "La Cheminée du Roi René." These are workmanlike, pleasant readings of the music. While I would have liked a bit more subtlety and elan--a more "French" interpretation--I have nonetheless enjoyed this CD and I'm glad to have a chance to become reacquainted with this generally neglected repertoire.
