Enchanting gamba version of beloved Corelli sonatas, November 16, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Sonatas for Viola Da Gamba & Basso Continuo Op V (Audio CD)
I could be persuaded that the combination of solo viola da gamba with basso continuo - baroque cello, viola da gamba, etc. -- is even better than the violin originals. The mixture of the warm, husky sounds of the instruments, and a sense of expression in the tempos and dynamics make this an enchanting recording. I recommend the first 5 cuts, the sonata in C major, especially the first and fifth dances.

Corelli and beyond., August 13, 2000
This review is from: Sonatas for Viola Da Gamba & Basso Continuo Op V (Audio CD)
When you listen to music which you have heard so many times that you feel that you've heard it perhaps once too often and then even so you will hear it again because of its intrinsic beauty, well, it takes a very special performance to restore that feeling of listening to the music for the very first time. If you like baroque chamber music and instruments, if you like Corelli and if you like these particular sonatas, you will just love this recording. Well balanced, formally precise and deeply moving, very human and also so beyond words.
