This review is from: The Soncino Chumash (Hardcover)
This edition provides a translation as well as synopsis of the major traditional Jewish Bible commentators. Unlike most English Bibles which alter the literal translation for the sake of clarity, the Stone translation is always true to the original Hebrew. No other translation I've seen even comes close in this regard. As far as the commentary is concerned, by being a synopses, it includes a very brief summary of every almost every comment by Rashi and Ramban as well as comments by many other traditional commentaries. However, by giving only a summary, it leaves out the logic that Rashi and Ramban use in developing their opinions. For this reason the Stone edition of the Chumash is best suited to someone looking for a brief overview of the traditional Jewish Bible interpretations and a literal translation of the Hebrew. Serious scholars would be better suited by referring to the originals.
