Absolutely Phenominal!, January 10, 2000

This review is from: Sondtracks for Living (Audio CD)
This is easily one of my favorite CD's of all time! I own over 500 CD's and just as many vinyl LP's and this CD just blows me away. I have to rank it one of my top 10. It is the ultimate groovy chill CD. As long as I'm not in the mood to listen to something hard and thrashy or overly dancey or jazzy, this is the CD for me. It has a great way of relaxing me yet still has enough groovy loungey bounce in it to pick me up ... a great combination. Song after song on it is great which is a rarity to me when I listen to CD's. There are influences from 50's lounge to 70's groove to modern electronic to .... Like the title says "Soundtracks For Living" it does just that for me and more ... it takes me on a trip everytime I listen to it. Just what I was asking for when I bought it! There are very few CD's I can recommend as highly as this CD. I really wish I could give it more than 5 stars. I just wish I could say the same for their 2nd CD Faboo .... Yuk! Boy was I ever disappointed with that one.

70's Mood Bubble Soundtrack-esque music that soars, June 22, 1999
This review is from: Sondtracks for Living (Audio CD)
This band captures the essence of dreamy 1970's soundtrack love, space, bubble rock. Intense string arrangement with fluffy danceable melodies. Very ambient, but pop and sensual as well. If you like Stereolab's Dots in Loops, High Llama's Cold and Bouncy, and 60's/70's James Bond soundtracks during love scenes, you will dig this album. Oh baby.

All you need is a scotch and a smoking jacket. This music is soooo chill. Very happy music that may get on poeple's nerves. This music is definitely not for everyone. VERY spacy. I love it. If you like chilling on the couch, but hate TV BUY IT. Wether you get high or not the music puts you into that chill state of mind.

Gentle People, The - Soundtracks For Living, February 24, 2011
This review is from: Sondtracks for Living (Audio CD)
Perhaps an odd release for the Rephlex label, but Rephlex has always prided itself on its oddness. The Gentle People's debut, Soundtracks for Living take the lounge scene and run away with it entirely. Blissful and heavenly, there's not one note out of place, not one sound to cause any undue alarm. Instead, it's the grooviest melodies and rhythms this side of Burt Bacharach. The first half of the album is packed full of champagne bubbles: "The Soundtrack of Life," "Journey," and "World of Love" go straight to your head. "Emotion Heater" is a longer track, compounding the happiness. The second half of the album sometimes drifts a little too far into the ether, but it's maintains the same vibe. Self-consciously campy, full of life and naugahyde, make The Gentle People's Soundtracks for Living your own.
