Thunder Strikes is a Twisted Hairs elder, and of mixed blood.

At the very beginning of the book there is a discussion of a gathering of 144 elders coming together from every part of the world and gathering in Oaxaca, Mexico in 1254 BCE. Where is the evidence of trans oceanic travel more than 3,000 years ago.

5.0 out of 5 stars intense, comprehensive translation of one shamanic paradigm, September 19, 1999
This review is from: Song of the Deer: The Great Sun Dance Journey of the Soul with Other (Paperback)
One shamanic paradigm being utilized internationally, written with mainstream symbology, applications and tools designed to be used for any aspect of wounding, armoring, healing of patterns, self-sabotage and empowerment.

"Are you for sale?" When I read these words, my soul wrenched itself into all the times I had sold pieces of myself to fit in, belong, conform and be approved of, by every relationship, professional experience, authority figure/tyrant, and group I ever wanted to be a part of. The need to survive as a child, to be "independent" as an adult, to not become "outcast" by family, peers, friends and society resulted in layers upon layers of masks, until I lost my ability to find what was real and true for my soul to survive.

"I want to be one-hearted... I am not a person - I AM a magnetic attracting thought. I AM the best I have ever been." In the darkness of the many losses I have been suffering though, these words and those that surrounding them, provided to me a light of hope with concrete tools. I was able to use them to aid me to move from my despair and helplessness, to significant changes that added to my will to live beyond just survival.

"How does my soul stalk the dream like a jaguar, through my physical incarnation of this spirit personality? How does my birth sign, align with my totem animal? How can I discern between my Pretender and Commander inner voices? How can I work with my "doubt shout"? How can I map the patterns of the cycles within my life to find the infinity movement, which causes me to repeat what doesn't (and does) work, and bring me what my soul is calling for? What about the ability and effects of aligning with the food I eat, the plants, animals, stones and elements to hear their voices and messages?"

In this book, I found a roadmap to assist me to learn how to begin to erase my personal history so I could begin to choose the screenplay I desired to live. I learned how to bring new life, by meeting death as an ally, advisor and companion, to stop the world to make my choices, control my dreams and most importantly of all, to assume personal authority by taking responsibility to face squarely how it is I chose to be different in creating my Sun Dance for my soul's "NOW" experience.

I am grateful to this author for writing these resources in language and stories which I have been able to understand and use effectively to finding and taking back my natural self, to dig through my inner mud to find the gold of what it is I am mean to be - for ME!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Practical Guide, June 5, 2000

Lise Beaulieu (Calgary, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Song of the Deer: The Great Sun Dance Journey of the Soul with Other (Paperback)
The Song of the Deer not only provides philosophy and esoteric knowledge, it shows how to apply this information in a way that can really facilitate change. Jan Orsi's personal examples of her challenges in her life's walk helped to put the information in a real-world modern context.

There is a wealth of information in this book. I would suggest to any potential reader to read it at their own pace. Put it down for a few weeks, and then read it again, slower, and you will be amazed at much more you will get out of it.

I found the information on the Adult and Child Substance Shields, spoke to me and I could easily indentify when I was choosing to look at life behind one of these shields, whether with positive attributes or negative attributes.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Vital Spiritual Work, February 23, 2000
This review is from: Song of the Deer: The Great Sun Dance Journey of the Soul with Other (Paperback)
SONG OF THE DEER is a work of immense importance to those on the Path with Heart. A work that shuns the all-too-typical "let's play Indian" approach to the spirituality native to the Americas, SONG OF THE DEER focuses on substance over style. (And what substance it is!) The very mechanics of universal and personal creation are explained, the goal being for the reader to apply this knowledge in the process of individual and collective evolution. The author weaves stories of personal experience throughout the book, giving the material presented a perspective of true knowing rather than one of believing. SONG OF THE DEER is a must-read for anyone seeking information about spirituality from a wholistic and inclusive (rather than exclusive) perspective. Along with Hyemeyohsts Storm's LIGHTNINGBOLT, SONG OF THE DEER rates as a genuine "desert island" book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A serch for 10'ness, June 7, 2000
This review is from: Song of the Deer: The Great Sun Dance Journey of the Soul with Other (Paperback)
This book has changed my life. It was one of the first books I had read on my path with heart. Now I am living the life every day. For me I was searching for self worth and a direction in the world. I have found it. I learned who I was and what I had the potential to be. I am singing my shields and dancers awake. I pray for all of those who read this that their flowering tree be awake or ready to awaken. Wado!

Why does a book about Native American Spirituality go into the Eastern mysticism of Karma and Dharma?

We should control our own life instead of worrying about what someone else might say or think. Personal freedom is empowering.

We should give thanks, and bless the food we eat. Two Bears

Wah doh Ogedoda (We give thanks Great Spirit)

1.0 out of 5 stars Idiotic stereotypical nonsense from a notorious con man, April 5, 2002
This review is from: Song of the Deer: The Great Sun Dance Journey of the Soul with Other (Paperback)
Anyone who is dumb enough to think Harley Reagan, a blue-eyed blond, martial arts, gun-toting survivalist world-class pervert, pimp, and friend of porn stars, is an actual Native elder could probably also be sold the Brooklyn Bridge. This is outlandish white racist fantasy of what you wasicus wish we were like. Who in their right mind would not know that this is Eastern Mysticism Lite for Dummies, with pseudo-Indian silly names attached to it?... He's a blond white guy who sometimes pretends to be Cherokee an dsometimes pretends to be Mayan. And all of the time, he's full of BULL like in this piece of trash book...you should ask yourself why in the hell you ever thought this was anything like the truth?
