5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC!!
Once again Dorothy Garlock delivers a fantastic book with a wonderful story and characters. The combination of romance, mystery and suspense are perfect. I'm really looking forward to WITH HEART due out in October 1999, which continues this great series of books set in the 1930's.

1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't like the word nigger
This book looked interested, the review on the back promised to be just that. As I started to read the book and saw the following statement:

"He looks cool as a cucumber while I'm sweating like a nigger at an election."

That statement revealed something about the author, and others involved with this book. I have no idea how that could have any kind of...

5.0 out of 5 stars With Song, July 1, 2003

I Enjoyed With Song the most of the Dolan boys stories. Perhaps as a lawman Hod - sworn to protect and lay down his life for others - was the most protective of his Molly. Although he started off by putting her in danger, his character was the one who I felt who was most reflective of the words "love is patient..." i.e, the most unselfish.

With Song is the second in the series about the 1930's. While I was not crazy about "With Hope" I fell in love with "With Song".

Molly is eager to catch the two gunmen who killed her parents. She agrees to let Hod, a government agent, use her as bait to lure the outlaws back to the store. At first, Molly doesn't like Hod at all, he is gruff and at times, insulting. As they prepare for the gunmen to return for Molly, she begins to see another side of him and gradually falls in love. After losing her parents so violently, she is hesitant to open herself up to more hurt.

Once again, the secondary characters in this novel are outstanding. Molly's aunt, her best friend, and the sinister preacher help to bring the story along. Johnny Henry also makes an appearance and we learn how Henry Ann is doing.

I highly recommend this book. It is truly romantic and it is nice to see characters stuggle to with their feelings instead of just instantly falling in love.

This is a wonderful read and the characters are so wonderful and entertaining. The wonderful Johnny is seen again in the second of this series of stories.... and let me tell you, I'm anxious to get to the third and fourth book of this series, where he is the main hero!!!!

Ms. Garlock is a gifted storyteller, and never fails to provide us with the best clan of characters ever!! This is the second Dorothy Garlock book that I've read, and I'm anxious to read everything she has done now!!! You will too... enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT, June 15, 1999

Although I enjoyed this book I could have easily seen fifty pages erased from it. Near the end the plot was getting a little too redundant. I wish it was more of a mystery of who the killer was. All in All it was a good book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even the Great Depression had moments of hope and love., March 29, 2000

This was the second book I'd read of Garlock. I couldn't wait to read all three in this triology (which has been so popular a fourth book is shortly to be published). I have since read many of her "western" based novels, but prefer this triology of the Great Depression years . Not much has been written about this time, and it was nice to see Garlock move into a new time on the American Frontier.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Exciting, Entertaining, Very Real Story of the 1930's, August 20, 1999

I have just started reading Dorothy Garlock. I have found her one of the most knowledgable authors in the Depression era. I think we need more books about the hard times that people had to endure during that period. There are too many young people today that do not have a clue what it was like to have to work for a living. I now appreciate what my mother and father had to go through. I grew up in Kansas also, and this book made every thing seem so real. Thanks heavens for people who bring real life into their stories so we all can learn some history. I can't wait for With Heart, in October 99' I am looking forward to getting on with The Dolan's and how they make out.

"With Song" is another wonderful story by Dorothy Garlock. I had to read the book in one sitting, I could not put it down and I find myself still thinking about the characters. Other books that I would also recommend by Dorothy Garlock are "Forever Victoria", Love and Cherish" and "Sweetwater".

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love it, June 11, 1999

With Song and With hope were both great books. There is history in the books and you will just fall in love with Hod and Molly and Jonny. If you have not read with hope that is ok because her books flow in a series and they can stand alone. I recomend both books. I can't wait for With Heart to come out and i wish it did not stop there all of Ms. Garlocks books are wonderful.
