Whether this album is as good as I think it is or just touches me in some way, it's hard to know. You'll just have to get it and listen for yourself. I remember hearing it in the 1980s and couldn't find out which album it was; only now have I managed to get hold of a copy. A prototype of "world music," it's laceratingly beautiful and hypnotic. Shankar's string playing is supremely evocative, mystical whilst not being New Agey, and Jan Garbarek's lyrical sax is serene and haunting. The title track is a master work, and the whole album gets better the more you listen to it.

Unusual Mood Music that Sticks With You,
By A Customer
This review is from: Song for Everyone (Audio CD)
I enjoyed this CD when it came out in the mid 80s and though my copy was stolen long ago, I still recall this record for its timeless, meditative quality and its unusual arrangements featuring electric violin, sax and tablas. If you like(d) the instrumental tracks that King Crimson was doing at the time (e.g., those from Discipline, Beat, Three of a Perfect Pair), you'll probably appreciate this CD.

I have owned this CD for some time and I continue to purchase copies for my friends. It is truly an enriching experience to put on the CD and allow the music to carry you, which it never fails to do in my case. The fusion of eastern and western nuances make for a unique journey.

I've had a copy of this on cassette since 1990, and never had any song titles only the name Shankar. I've searched and searched since then to avail to find out the album title. Only now have I found out. A part of me can rest in peace!
On to the music however. This blew me away when I first heard and it continues to do so. I find it perfect to listen to when falling asleep. Each track is simply astounding, with an almost "happy" and uplifting feel to many of the songs. A must-have purchase if you're a fan of "World Music"

I`ve bought many Garbarek CDs after hearing title song (for everyone). It was never like in this marvellous music, though he is really great. This album is such a nice experience, the very rare oportunity of tasting relaxing but not diminushing music. Do not lose it!

Right from the first strings of Paper Nut, to the thrilling "Song for Everyone", every track has the complete passion of Shankar and Garbarek behind it. "Rest in Peace" is a soulful piece - you'll definitely love it. Just get it!
